The google doc spreadsheet above is the Miom Top 100 players that chose each character broken down into four divisions (100-65, 64-33, 32-17 and Top 16) the imperfect sum is a weighted formula that I made super simple (100-64+64-32*2+32-17*3+16-10*4). I know its not a good representation but it does give an idea as to where the metagame is right now the better the players get.
I left out the top 10 (Shroomed-Armada) thinking that those players are talented enough to get where they are almost regardless of character choice. Obviously they would still need to play a character with good options but those players could push any characters options further that seemingly the rest of the top 100.
Things I found interesting...
How many falcos there were given his placement on the tier list. The only falcos that can seem to get consistent top 16 results are Mango and Westballz (PPMD seems to play more Marth as of right now but he is in there too). When you include the top 10 players Falco seems to be in the god tier with Fox Sheik and Marth, but if you take out those three Falco's then Falco falls down into the Falcon, ICs and Peach area.
Obviously Falcon is helped in my (imperfect) rating system by his popularity and how much fun he is to play
Doc is the only character considered viable (to make a top 8 run at a major) that has no representation in the top 100 as a main. Shroomed and HMW have played him in the past but neither one of them have played him since mid 2014.
I know its not perfect but I think it is an interesting exercise to gauge how good the character is vs how talented the player who plays them are.
