Minor joint pain while jumping with y button

I use the y button to jump. When jumping, I will bend the joint of my thumb to press the button Y, and when I want to perform aerials I stretch the thumb in the neutral position and press down a little on the A button. Problem is, I will sometimes feel minor discomfort in the joint while doing so which ends up effecting my play to a degree. Does anyone else have this problem? I am wondering if it is a problem in my technique, or if it is some kind of minor joint problem.

Try switching which button you use for jump? I know muscle memory might be an issue, but if it's affecting your play you should get on readjusting. I myself use the X button. I know some people use one of the shoulder buttons. I'm pretty sure one guy even used A.

I recommend you get it checked out, It will only get worse otherwise. Also, lookup some stretches for your finger joints.

I did some research, carpal tunnel seems to only effect the base joint of your thumb. I'm referring to the last join in your thumb, behind the finger nail. Perhaps I am bending it too much. If there were more videos of player's hands while they are playing Melee/PM, I could draw comparisons to see what I might be doing wrong, but I could only find one.

I just tested myself and it looks like I do not bend my thumb when I hit the jump button (I also use Y). I just move the whole thing up and down from the base joint. And I mean the base join by your wrist, not the middle one.

If it keeps bothering you I would definitely suggest trying to change how you press it. It might be really hard to change how you press the Y button, so the suggestion of trying to use the X button to jump might be a good one.
