Ok, since what looks like a reliable version of the back boxart has been revealed

( link : http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=119723&page=31 )

this was something that came to mind, and it's clearly my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

Anyway, that pic looks pretty final. Notice it says 12+ newcomes, not including unlockables. so, if we now have 11 (I am inlcuding Zamus in this because she is on the newcomer list), we have one new character left. Now, I'm thinking that the boxart is pretty final because it may have been planned for the Dec. 3 release date. Nothing too illogical yet, I hope. So, Perhaps the starting roster is 24, lncluding 12 newcomers. Also, maybe Sakurai HAD planned the updates (crazy though, but not within the realm of possiblity), and he wanted to reveal only the starting roster by release. Nothing too farfetched yet?

So, mayber he was planning on revealing this final starting character mid-november, so that he'd have the whole starting roster just in time for launch, then reveal the secret character afterwards. Now, since he needs more time to complete the game, he probably hasnt had time to arrange the updates as neccessary, but is aware that maybe he shouldn't reveal this final starting character until later (if he's adhering to only unveiling the starting lineup, which is still quite possible).

Now, my conclusion. Perhaps this dry streak of updates is to stall while he figures out what he's going to about characters. So, he's either getting his things in order, which would mean this last starting character won't be revealed for a while, or that he's considering revealing hidden characters.

Now, i know that this whole theory could be thrown by the wayside because not all the vets could are announced, but i think it's a pretty valid thing to consider, no?

I have a feeling that most veterans (maybe even all) will be starters, but some newcomers will be too. I'm guessing Meta Knight, Pit, Wario, Pokemon Trainer (he's on the boxart), and Solid Snake (who MAY be unlockable, because we know Sonic will).

Also 200+ new trophies. :D

Well, first this is all assuming that is the real back cover. Possible, but who knows. They have been very good about not leaking things for Brawl, surprisingly good for a game developer, usually there are SOME leaks, and there has been little to nothing for Brawl... I mean, all that comes to mind is the Ganondorf/Sheik thing, the Luigi slip, and the Jigglypuff slip, but the second two mean near nothing.

I have another theory right now.

Ok. First, the game was delayed? Ok, anyone that does not know that wouldn't be reading this anyway. Now, going by the theory that Sakurai had a planned list of updates that would be put up leading to release, he is going to have to change the plan and spread his character updates around... or is he?

Look at the trend of recent updates. EVERYTHING that gets updated was at E for All. Literally, everything. Maybe that should tell us something? Not everyone is in tune with a Smash community like this one, not everyone can get information about what it was like at E for All. So to those people, all of the updates are still totally new information.

E for All was also US only, so the above basically applies even more so to other countries.

So, Sakurai has to change his updates around... wait. What if he takes everything that the people who learned stuff at E for All, and puts all of that on the site. That will take a few weeks to get all the ATs, Pokemon, gameplay mechanics, items, move information, and everything like that up.

Get where I am going with this? Basically, he is probably intentionally putting up information that we (on this board at least) learned thanks to E for All for the people who do not have access to that information. Once all that has been put up, he will be back on a "normal schedule" and release a character every week or two.

So if that theory is true, we can expect not to see a "good" update for a while.

The back is FAKE!!

Why? Where are the Konami and Sega logos, hmm? They'd have to put them on the back of the game.

...Plus I've seen that before. Like SEVERAL months ago.

Therefore, theory debunked.
