So, how do people feel about having a Versus section with different mini-games that essentially control the same as normal Smash combat but have different winning conditions?

For example:
SMASH SPORTS

New Items

Sportsball (Woulda called it "Smashball" if it wasn't already taken)
A very simple item. An indestructible ball that looks like a round Smash symbol.
You pick it up, you throw it, and it bounces lightly before rolling to a stop.
Hitting someone with it hits like a thrown baseball bat, but dodging at the right moment will catch the ball.
Getting hit while holding it makes it drop very easily.
Floatball
The ball this time is a custom Sportsball that has about the same physics as the falling trophies in N64's Catch the Trophy. This means that hitting it in any way will send it sailing upward. The ball starts falling faster and faster the longer it's in play.
Sluggerball
Essentially, a baseball the size of the smoke bomb. Hitting it will send it flying but you can alternately just pick it up and throw it. While the Soccer Ball tends to get hit and stop mid-air, the Sluggerball keeps flying dangerously until it hits the ground.
The Power Mitt
When you pick up the mitt, it becomes equipped to your character like a Franklin Badge. While equipped, when an item that can be caught mid-air is thrown at your character you automatically catch it. Also, when throwing items with the mitt, they are thrown 50% harder.
Note: All of these minigames can be played with whatever item settings you choose, but the ball that's part of the mini-game won't spawn randomly.

Stages
The stages would all be horizontally set stages with goals on the end. The goal will be whatever applies to the selected minigame.
-Flat: Essentially, a longer Final Destination with goals on each end. If a ball is knocked off the stage, it respawns next to the closest edge.
-Bumpy: Irregular terrain. With Brawl physics, hitting the soccer ball into a slope makes it stick to the ground instead of being launched into the air. The Sportsball would also not bounce very far due to getting caught in little crevasses.
-V: Both sides have a slight slope so the ball slowly rolls back to the center when it's being unattended.
-Springy: The ground is lined with small springs, turning the soccer game into an entirely aerial game.
-Pool: The stage is primarily underwater except for the raised sides. Changes the physics a bit.

SMASH SOCCER
Teams
Match starts with two teams on either sides of the stage with the soccer ball item in the center. Very basic: Get the ball into the enemy's goal which is just a classic soccer goal. Feel free to kill your enemies, but points are only reward for scoring goals.
Free-For-All
Only one goal, ball still spawns in the middle, characters all spawn on one side.

Modes
Timed match: At the end of the set time, whoever has the most goals wins. Number of kills is a tie breaker.
Goal stock: Whoever scores the set number of goals first wins.

Sudden Death
Soccer balls start spawning in the center and whoever gets the first goal wins.

SMASH-SKETBALL
The same thing as soccer, except with the Sportsball instead of the Soccer Ball and with levitating hoops instead of goals on the ground. Remember, since the Sportsball is dropped easily, it's mostly about playing keep-away and throwing the ball away frequently.
SMASH-SKETBALL 2
This game essentially is N64's Catch the Trophy except competitive. Each hit will send the Floatball up and towards the center hoop. Opponents will try intercept the ball before it falls in... points are rewarded by who the last person to hit the ball was.
You are very much allowed to kill your opponents and try to score while they're recovering/respawning.

SMASH 'n DODGE BALL
Dodge ball rules... grab Sportsballs and try to kill your opponents with them. You can only hit opponents with items (including other items you've set to spawn). However, only kills with a Sportsball count for scoring.

Teams
Teams spawn on different sides. Teams can't cross over the center line.
Free-for-All
No lines keeping people on different sides.

SMASH VOLLEY
Volley ball, Smash style.
The ball this time is a custom Sportsball that has about the same physics as the falling trophies in N64's Catch the Trophy. This means that hitting it in any way will send it sailing upward. The ball starts falling faster and faster the longer it's in play.
Teams
There's a net in the center of the stage and each team tries to make the ball land on the enemy's side.
Free-for-All
No net. Each player takes turns hitting the ball and if they miss and it falls to the ground, they lose a point. The player whose turn it is starts glowing.
So, what do y'all think? I get that it's entirely a casual mode thing, but I think it'd still be fun trying to find fun setting combinations and playing a few games in between more competitive matches with friends.

Super Bash Sisters Xtrem-- ah, forget it. :troll:

Those ideas sound nice. Some new twists on the classic Smash Bros. gameplay always sound good to me thanks to the variety it brings to the game.

Also, these games could be the beginnings of a lot of different event matches, and they'd be fun things to unlock (probably by playing through aforementioned events).

They could make a ton of different easy mini-games. I just listed the ones that imitate different sports, but they could easily have shooting gallery type things or, well, a dozen other easy to program things. It could be a lot of fun.

Your idea seem genuine and interesting ;) , I'd really like different types of versus options rather than only straigh-forward combat, could make the game more enjoyable :)
