When you guys counter pick a stage, do you think more of the character or personal preference? I tend to lean more towards personal preference, but naturally there's a limit (I'm not going to go KJ64 or Brinstar when I'm Falco just because I feel like it lol). So yea, I'm just looking for some opinions of my fellow smashers :)

Picking a stage that you don't feel comfortable on counters you possibly as much as your opponent. You should look at all the stages you're comfortable with, then pick out the most effective counter for your opponent.

definitely definitely definitely personal preference

when i'm in a fox ditto, or vs falco, i'll go to/ban the first stage that pops into my mind
after that, i'll try to think of the reason why it came up, like "the arrangement of the platforms on battlefield lets him control the stage better, so i'll ban that"

Counterpicking stages should be based on
1. why you lost to begin with and
2. where you're comfortable aka player preference.
A counterpick that works for you against one Sheik player might not work so well against another Sheik player because the two players have different playstyles and may play better on the counterpicked stage. There's no "against this character with this character, the best CP stage is X," because people play differently and have different in-game skillsets. Players like Cactuar benefit from counterpicking to Dreamland because he's very good at controlling space and movement, while players like Jman or M2K prefer counterpicking to Pokémon Stadium often due to the inherent advantages that space animals gain from the stage

If you play a campy fox ban YS or brinstar stages that stop you. If you are very aggeive then go to small stages.

how you play changes many things. I like Ys as falco/fox/bowser/roy and maybe ice climbers anyone esle even marth isn't cool for me.
