Might there be a way to turn off explosive containers?

Probably old...but...

At 0:35, Ike hits a crate that has a "fire" logo on it. This might be evidence that Crates and Explosive Crates are two different items. If this is true, it'll be interesting to see how items are viewed in tournaments.
In tournaments, that probably wouldn't matter anyway, because everything including all containers would be turned off. However, if an explosive crate is a separate item, I have no reason to believe that it could independently be turned off.

By the way, welcome to the boards!

Yeah...this probably won't change items in tournaments, but it looked interesting at least. Maybe now I won't keep blowing myself up when I play 4-player item matches...

Thanks.

Not every tournament hates items, but the exploding crates did put a lot of people off them. If you could remove them, then we might see some more 'Limited item' tourneys around. Of course, I'm actually an Item smasher, so I don't care either way XD

Thing is, those explosive containers are the reason items are banned. If we can turn those off, maybe the allowed set of items could return.

ya i\'m pretty sure that they have it set up now that the crates and exploding crates are distinguisable so we might be able to turn it off.

Serebii, ever think that some people get frustrated at randomness? Frustration is not fun.

Anyway... to be on topic.. let's put it this way:

Unless we have a way to stop items from being random, they won't be used in serious tournaments. Think of a FPS. You know how powerups and power weapons spawn on fixed timers? Like, every 2 minutes, the Rocket Launcher respawns on the map, or something along those lines... Controlling powerups is definitely a good thing in competitive gaming.

Well, let's say there an item that players find over time to be inherently balanced, like the Team Healer in team games, for example. That sounds reasonable. Well, if there's a way to make the Team Healer spawn every 60 seconds in the exact same spot every time (we choose where that spot is on each level), competitive organizations will most definitely be able to add the Team Healer to competitive Brawl 2v2's.

That's just an example. If Brawl gives us the ability to customize, we can add whatever items we want to competitive play. But if there's no way for players to prevent randomness, items won't be in competitive play again. End of story.
