What's up with Metal Cavern? I've seen it as a banned map, a cp map, and in one tourney, a starter. I was wondering what people thought about metal cavern. What are the good aspects of it and what are the bad?

Stage Size: Small
Platforms: 1
Ceiling: Medium
Side Blast Zones: Far

Originally an unselectable boss stage from the first Super Smash Brothers where the player fought Metal Mario, Metal Cavern was recreated for Project M! A deceptively neutral-looking stage with large blast zones, you can expect characters to live a lot longer than expected. It's slope drastically affects gameplay in a variety of ways such as affecting projectiles and double jump cancelling. This stage is great for heavy characters that rely on stage dominance since the smaller stage and slants give projectile users and faster characters much less room to breathe.

It feels like a smaller Dream Land. Everyone lives longer, but since the stage is smaller, you're forced off-stage more. The unusual slant on the base also forces projectile spammers to think and use them differently. It's really the perfect counter-pick against Mario.

It would be a good cp stage had it not been for the weird ledges that makes it a pain to sweetspot with some characters (lucario)
If they fix that it could be a good cp, and so could lylat

People need to stop johning about the ledges and just learn to recover on the stage. It just takes a little bit of practice. As a G&W my only options on Yoshi's Story are to barely sweetspot or recover high, but you don't see me trying to ban the stage just because it's a little harder to recover properly.

As a gdubs shouldn't you be banning yoshi's story because it has an incredibly low ceiling?

What's wrong with the ledges?
Basically the same problem the Lylat stage has. The easiest way to put it, is... they're weird. Main problem is really they're considerably harder to sweet spot.

I believe that it is a solid CP due to its unique combination of small-ish main stage and large blast zones, thus bringing variety to the different layouts available in legal stages.

I think it's stupid against Mario cause the way the ground is angled his fireballs go straight up and bounce straight up on the right side of the stage. I'd prefer if it's flat, not just because of Mario, but just in general. For the amount of misshapenness it has it's too small to support it.

It's a good counter pick when fighting Zoner's/Projectile Spammers and you play a rush down...

*Says this while main Link, Shiek, and Zelda*

LoL I do like the stage because it forces the close quarter combat.

When my opponent fails to grab the ledge on Lylat, I understand. They're difficult. If my opponent failed to grab ahold of metal cavern's ledge and then johned, I'd be thoroughly baffled.

and would do this

The ledge is pretty easy to sweetspot. It's the stage's funky bottom that makes it hard to recover safely to the ledge for ROB, Lucario, or anyone with recoveries that curve or have sharp angles.
