So i love playing as lucas and am trying hard to put Lucas up there. But When i play this Metaknight, all he did was down smash and tornado, then uses Up B to finish me. What do i do against his downsmash? I can roll around his tornado but his downsmash is too fast. Which move do i have that is faster? I don't wanna give up on Lucas, but metaknight is just too much of a pain in Lucas' ***

Nothing you've got (save maybe a jab) is faster than his downsmash. The tornado's beaten by pk fire. try being in the air more if he starts to spam downsmash, maybe approach with a fair. Or shield the downsmash and attack afterwards.

Lucas vs meta is favored for the metaknight, so it's not gonna be a picnic, but don't give up.

And it may be wise to get used to some other characters for certain matchups. (for instance, I pick Ness against DDD because the matchup is better). It doesn't mean that you're giving up, just that you're recognizing an advantage and dealing with it appropriately.

Any game against meta is a game of spacing. You need to space so that he misses, but stay close enough to punish his mistakes, which can make for a rough, somewhat long game. Good luck.

Pick another character. His tornado outprioritizes everything you have except projectiles, which are useless if he utilizes his speed and stays on you the whole match.

To punish downsmash, SH nair QUICKLY.

PK fire him out of the tornado, and DI up to force him into a punishable falling animation.

A good player isn't going to downsmash with the knowledge that you'll be able to dodge and retaliate. I've never been able to escape a well placed tornado and be able to punish the lag. Shielding and rolling won't cut it since the tornado has great mobility and can wear down your shield until you're vulnerable. The only real option you have against this is to run and spam projectiles. Also, whenever you're grabbed, DI down and away, otherwise you'll be hit by an up-B for a low% kill.

Thinking about it, PK Freeze might actually be viable in this matchup in small doses. When charged long enough it has a nice hitbox to help defend you, and will knock Metaknight up. I think you'll have the upper hand when he's a good distance above you and not level with you, loop a PK Thunder around him to build up some damage and then cover your 4ss with another PK Freeze. If he stays back to avoid being thrown into the air again, spam PK Fire.

Jihnsius, PK freeze leaves you move open, he'll just jump or spot-dodge. Additionally, his glide is like twice as fast as your pk thunder, so he'll evade it. I'm liking Techno's advice, but there's got to be a way to handle a MK that's already in the air...

I'm waiting for a PK Freeze infinite to be discovered where you can lock someone in repeated PK Freezes until they die off the top.

Then I'll play a lucas against metaknight.

Untill then, hell no.

Thank god Meta doesn't have a projectile. Spam PkFire like no tomorrow (short-hopped). And majority of the time, you should aim to kill him vertically since its much, much easier that way. You practically can't edgeguard a good meta when he's recovering horizontally. His fair is overall better than yours, and all of his aerials come out as fast/faster than your nair. Anticipate rolls (if there was something as easy as wavedashing, meta will be unstoppable imo) and punish with ftilt/upsmash. Never underestimate the range of the upsmash, since it hits like three Lucas models piled up (sorry for the lame description) and also hits a decent amount at the side.
Some info pulled from another similar thread. There are also these two threads on Lucas vs Metaknight found in these forums:
