Melee Netplay Lag?

So, it pretty much all started when I upgraded my Graphics card from an Nvidia GTX 960 2GB DDR4 to an Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB DDR5 (at least that's as far back as I can recall it happening)

Since then whenever I wanted to play Melee Netplay with friends, Melee underperformed, pretty much lagging every so often to the point of 300ms. Trying to play different games it goes perfect (no disconnecting, and I don't lag on either TeamSpeak or Discord). It's just on Melee, I've tried countless of things to try and fix the problem. Seemingly nothing works as of right now though.

Hopefully anyone knows a fix for this or has experienced the same problem and might enlighten me a bit about the situation. Thanks in advance!

If your ping is spiking, those issues don't have to do with your graphics card but with your connection. If you experience issues while the ping stays the same, your hardware is at fault.

To test your connection, press Windows key+R, then type cmd in that box or simply search for cmd in the windows search bar.
Then, in the cmd screen, the command prompt, type:
ping google.com -t -l 1024

that will ping google with a bit of data. The part that says time=___ms is your ping with google. The value doesn't matter but it should always stay about the same within a few ms of each other. If that is not the case, your connection is at fault for the poor netplay experience.

Checking that my ping stays around 15-25ms when pinging Google. The thing that still bugs me though, is that, it's pretty obvious my connection is at fault in this case. However, how come it only affects SSBM and no other games? (By that I do not mean within Dolphin by the way, I used to have 20XX but the same lag appeared there) I'm not sure what to do about it, considering we've been spending a good few ours trying to get around this obstacle. Have you got any idea?

You could try connecting via direct connection. All you have to do is change from traversal to direct connection in the top of the netplay window and when hosting, remember to tick the "forward UPnP" box. To share your ip, simply type "ip" into google and send that to your friends. Direct connection reduces the ping when you are close to the person you want to reach, like within the same country but increases the ping if you are far away, like 500+km.
