Just an Idea I have had in the back of my head for a while now and something I think would be super fun to watch right?
Ok so here's the Idea...hold an invitational only tournament where the best (2, 4, 6, or maybe even 8) players from each region are invited. "Best" is determined by rankings. My thoughts would be to invite the best four, plus two fan voted players from each country.

It would probably be like America, Sweden, and...Japan? (Sry if I'm forgetting any major competetors)
An event like this would probably be best if it's a part of something. Like a smash con or something, idk. Reason being is because it obviously wouldn't be a huge tournament but it damn sure would get large stream views, and everyone there would be so hype.
Ok, ok enough about just an idea, I'll go ahead and say how I would do it, if I could.

Assume America, Japan, and Sweden are the three countries right?

Top four players from each
America: Hbox, Mango, PPMD, M2K
Sweden: Armada, Leffen, Lamp,?
Japan: ?, ?,?,?

Idk how we should set up the pools yet, but maybe something similar to what league of legends does for worlds? Semi similar at least.

Anyways, in the end it would be epic and hype as fuuu! Pride for the country is the main prize! Oh, and tournament does NOT affect rankings seems how it's invitational only.

Each year, whichever country wins would be bragging until the next year hahaha!
...idk tell me what you guys think.

Oh, and if this is already a thing...I'll tuck my tail and hide now. K, thx, bye.

Fighting games don't take as long to play out as other esports. It's better to simply just host an international tournament. A 30 player bracket would end quickly. It would only last 1 day and who would only want to spectate fighting games when they're so easy to set up to play?

Isn't this basically what the smash summit is?

Japan really doesn't have any super-top level players. And the country rivalry between Sweden and America happens anyway, at pretty much every major tournament.

Shippu is pretty good imo
That may be so... but 113th at apex 2015 certainly doesn't make him seem like he'd fit into a tournament that only invites the best 12 players in the world.

I'll agree, but I don't think that placing provides an accurate description of his capabilities. Just my opinion.

of course the rivalry is there, however an invitational tourney specifically for country v country like this would have loads of views, extreme bragging rights etc.

Also, as for the "size of that tourney" problem, a few things. everything could be best out of 3 two sets until grand finals, making it b05 two sets? or something of the sort. we all know it would be all high level play, so I think everyone would WANT bigger set and more sets, no? and hell maybe the invitational could be a part of another tourney? like, part of apex, or part of a smash con, or part of big house? Idk, I think it would be super hype and most would watch. \

Mad USA chants as well HAHA
