Hello Melee community! I've been wondering if something similar to the cBliss expansion project in Brawl/PM is even possible yet. I'm guessing it's not because Melee modding isn't really is expansive as Brawl/PM modding is. (Yes I know why) Also, I don't mean expansion like the alternate character thing where you can press L or R to get a different costume. I mean something like adding CSPs to the CSS.

There's been a bit of discussion here. http://smashboards.com/threads/386137/

As a general overview, there isn't enough space in the RAM to load an ENTIRE set of extra CPSs but we could definitely load a bunch, and we can't get multiple versions of a specific color loaded into a match, so you couldn't, for example, have CLG Marth fight EMP Marth or TSM Fox fight golden Fox. The former is not possible to change but the latter is definitely possible to fix.

I for one really want this to work.

The wii has a lot more ram than the gc. We know how to add csps, its just the gc doesnt have enough ram to support a second set.

There's likely enough RAM for say half a set or even just 2 extra per character, that's more of a limitation on the number than an obstacle. The bigger issue is the restriction of one costume per color in a game.

Well yeah if you only wanted to do a few itd be fine. The latter isnt really an issue as more of a hassle. If the bone and root structures are the same you could probably just load it over a different costume. Like load neutral marth over red marth. Ive done that before.

Okay, I understand that there isn't enough to space. However, is there not a way to compress the stuff so that you could fit all of it in the RAM?
If you made all the CSPs CMPRs you could fit double without even using more space, but that would lower the texture quality significantly.

Without knowing anything about bone or root structures, the vast majority of costumes do not work on other colors when you simply replace the file, with a couple rare exceptions.

Well when the game is expecting one set of bones and you give it another theres bound to be problems. That being said youd have to edit the string table. I cant imagine it ever working in general if you dont.
Edit: Just tested it a bit. Game doesnt care about the root structure count. Swapped jiggs with the crown for neutral jiggs. Id assume as long as it doesnt mess up the animation file itd be fine. Youd have to write a code to edit the string table as soon as the file is loaded into the ram but Im pretty sure we know how the data is stored so it seems easy enough.

After some checking, I'll do some tests later to see if I can import a duplicate of MnSlMap.usd to see if we can get double amount of portraits in the CSP
