(Not a Brawl v. Melee argument, keep that OUT)
So this kind of happened yesterday, my brother came here with 2 of his friends and we all decided to play a few smash games. The first one we played was Melee, and I kind of had a ruleset set up that he really agreed with too. The usual ruleset, 4 stock and no items. I think me and him were on the same page where we both HATED items in Melee. Most were dull, boring, and completely pointless to the actual gameplay. He was kind of a competitive player, but I was really into it. I was trying to still get used to waveshining and other Fox combos, and we were having a bit of fun. (I actually illusioned right into a falcon paunch :D), but it kind of came to me, that game was fun WITHOUT items like most people would prefer it. It never occurred to me before, but when I play Melee with the competitive ruleset, it is just an amazing game. The techniques are fun to do, and actually doing them on other people is fun.
So after a while the other guy came in and wanted to play Brawl, so we all 3 came in and he liked items on and we pretty much went against any competitive ruleset placed out by the smashboards -- hyrule temple, 8 stock, etc...
And then, something big happened, I realized that this is the most fun I've had in a Brawl game since I actually first started playing it with my friend. I enjoyed the competitive scene at first, but later it got dull, boring, and it got so bad to the point where I didn't even touch Brawl for 3 weeks.
Anyways, it's just the way I like things I guess, and it's kind of hard to say that to since most if not everyone on these boards are against this kind of ruleset. Items, large stock, and fun stages make this game Brawl. Without them, it just becomes a boring game.
And it's kind of hard to say that too since my main point to come here was to actually get into the competitive scene of Brawl, but now I end up on the opposite side of the field being more interested in competitive Melee.
So this revelation really brings me to realize how completely different these games are.
Yah, just a small rant I guess.
