we all know marths dash attack is very situational because it can be punished with its great amount of lag afterwards. In melee we adapted to using dash cancel to downtilt because it was much more convienent. Well in Brawl you cannont cancel your dash with a crouch only with a shield and you can only do that after your inital starting animation, same with brawl. I have recently starting using marths side b instead of his dash attack because of its fastness and usefulness overall and to Rack some decent dmg right away.

If your initial dash doesn't end before you reach your opponent, odds are that you're not using the best approach. You'd be better off with a Ftilt or short hopped aerial in that case. Side B is nice, but b-sticking it is a lot more useful than dashing directly into it.

This is mainly for foxtrot to dashdance side b. Thats what I mainly use it for basically the same reason in melee but it has other properties also. on Side note ftilt wouldnt be as good as an approach out of a dash imo. Also with side b and end the last part with a down can tear down there shield quite quickly that the last few hits will shield stab them. Its also very quick and can catch them off guard than the regular sh aerial.

Ftilt is nice because if you shield cancel it, there is virtually no lag, and it's like having a longer reaching, more powerful, less laggy dash attack.

Side B could be nice to switch things up, but you need to be fairly close with it (compared to some of Marth's other long reaching moves) to hit. You can also be shield grabbed quite easily if you aren't b-sticking it before your attacks cut through their shield.
