Marths counter

i personally feel that marths counter is very good and makes it easy to combo into other moves AND if my opponent is applying loads of pressure and getting close to me i counter and sets him/her off guard. was wondering why i never see high lvl play using the counter? and just watching other people play marth in tourneys no one uses counter? why?

Because if you miss it you are extremely vulnerable. Counter is only really used against spacie upB's at the ledge and for reckless Falco laser approaches. I don't think it can really combo into anything because of the lag after hitting it.

Counter is situational at best, but in those cases it is very useful. Counter can help swing the momentum of a match in your favor, but it can also lead to getting punished super hard by your opponent. Also, there are times when there are much better options than counter that are safer and more effective.

I would compare it to marth's downsmash. tippered downsmash is a great KO move, but because it's hard to space, time, easy to punish, and because there are usually better options, it is a very situational move. it doesn't mean that it's bad or you shouldn't use it, it just means that more often than not, a different move is a better. But there are times when counter or downsmash is the best option, it's just not very often

I always liked the BM with marth's counter. If they are attempting to recover with certain moves you can run out and counter it. It's more of a smash 4 thing but I find I can pull it off if the timing is correct in melee as well.

Anyone abusing the counter to their advantage will likely lead to the opponent baiting them into falsely using it, which leaves them open to extreme pain.
It is used best when used sparingly. The best Marth players do use it, just not too often.
