What are some good options for marth anti air? I seem to always lose to someone who's coming at me from the air.

Is it preferable to just wavedash out of the way and punish? or is up-tilt or another ground move solid for countering someone coming from the air

Pretty much all of your moves.

Marth wins air to air and ground to air battles.

Try using Fair/Uair for starters. Utilt is only for when they don't have their double jump to spare.

Depends on how they approach you, in a lot of situations retreating SH double fair covers everything they can throw out but if someone's being REALLY unsafe you can just grab and destroy them. Marth is really good at punishing bad air approaches if you haven't been forced into shield.

Not sure if it really should be working, but I catch people with double utilts a lot, where they double-jump to avoid the first and fall into the second. Fade-away aerials are pretty good. If you get super-hard reads just fsmash and make them afraid to try it again. If they're undershooting aerials you can dash attack to pop them up. Specifically against Falcon, if he's running at you and doing a long short-hop aerial, you can actually dash under him and make him overshoot. It's safer than retreating because Falcon is faster than you and his short hop covers so much distance.

yeah i noticed that too. whenever I try to dash dance falcon and he comes at me with short hop nair and I try to dash dance away. I have no luck getting away from those spider legs.

marth's entire character is anti-air

like basically all of marth's strategies are actually based on the premise that no one is stupid enough to jump at you in the first place.

marth's best anti-air is probably smashing your face into the controller and posting it on youtube.
