Mario Galaxy, getting 120 stars?

How do you get the stars where you have to get 100 purple coins? Do you have to beat the Final Bowser? Because I was trying to get all 120 before doing that? Can anyone help, please?

Also, is there an unlockable sound test?

Oh, and I tried searching "mario galaxy purple coins", but my browser said "fatal error" and took me back.

You get Luigi and can play Multi-Player.

You have to finish the game once in order for the Meteor that unlocks the 100 coin challenges appears, after that you can get the 120 stars and unlock Luigi, then do the same with Luigi.

You must beat Final Bowser to get the purple coin challenge, also you must get the grand star at the engine room.
