It's the other Mario Circuit. The old one. Or is the term "retro?" Vintage?

Mario Circuit

Layout
Mario Circuit (Brawl), hereafter simply "Mario Circuit," is a completely static stage with a walkoff, lacking any void for players to fall into. It's located at the intersection of a figure 8 racetrack, the upper level of which runs across the stage and serves as a standard platform, also a walkoff. The upper track is curved and has a gap in the middle, where a flat, standard platform exists for players to stand on as well.

Players 1 and 2 start on the upper track on opposite sides of the gap. Players 3 and 4 start on the ground in the middle. The Omega form floats over a void despite looking like it has walls. This has killed me in For Glory when I tried to recover wrongly.

Mario Circuit has a single stage hazard, the Shy Guy racers.

Shy Guys
Throughout the match, 8 Shy Guy racers drive around the course endlessly. Lakitu must be sleeping on the job or something instead of calling the race after the third lap. Since the playing area is located at the intersection, the Shy Guys enter the fight from both the background and from the side.

A screen in the background shows a realtime map of the course, complete with colored dots showing the location of all Shy Guys. Players can look at this screen to get an idea of the time until the Shy Guys next appear, and the direction they come from.

Uniquely, it is possible for players to attack the Shy Guys and put them out of commission for a lap. They have about 10 HP each.

When approaching from the background, the stage gives no explicit warning, but the Shy Guys are visible for several seconds before they reach the playing area. They do 15% damage and have enough base knockback for Mario to land on the center platform at 0%. They kill Mario off the top at 145%. Their exact position each lap is random, and unlucky players can possibly be struck by multiple Shy Guys tailing each other for increased damage.

When approaching from the side, the stage gives a warning sign in the form of flashing red arrows. The camera zooms out to ensure they are seen. The Shy Guys only do 10% damage when coming from the side.

When approaching from the side, the camera zooms out to show a set of flashing red arrows 4 seconds before the Shy Guys appear. The only do 10% damage from the side and kill Mario off the top at 155% from the center platform. The center platform itself is not safe, as some Shy Guys will not get much air at the jump and drive more or less level with the standing surface. Tall characters can also be hit regardless by the Shy Guys that do jump properly.

The Shy Guys driving through from the side. They now do 10% damage. There are 8 Shy Guys total.

Summary
  • Shy Guys do 15% and kill Mario at 145% when approaching from background.
  • Shy Guys do 10% and kill Mario at 155% when approaching from side.
  • Screen in background shows realtime map of course with Shy Guy locations.
  • Side approach signalled by arrows 4 seconds in advance.
