Making Giga Bowser better (an edit to Giga Bowser's moveset)

Before I start, I posted this thread at Bowser's sub-forum, since Giga Bowser is Bowser's Final Smash.

For quite a long time, I've often felt that Giga Bowser has been an underwhelming Final Smash fighter when compared to Giga Mac and Mega Lucario, especially considering that the transformation doesn't last very long. A few weeks ago, I took the time to modify some of Giga Bowser's attacks so that they'd deal more damage, but I also had to make some knockback adjustments during the process.

The following data contains the adjustments that I made to Giga Bowser, and I did some thorough tests as well to ensure that most of the attacks didn't make KOs too quickly. Most of the tests were done against Mario.

Now this may seem unnecessary for a Final Smash fighter, but you know that something is off whenever you notice that Giga Bowser often makes KOs later than a giant-sized Bowser.

On a side note, the biggest buff is to the f-smash; it becomes able to score potential 1-hit KOs against anyone (even Bowser) if fully charged, and Giga Bowser hits the opponents with his head. Also, some attacks may still not be too efficient whenever you're racing against the clock.

Hope y'all don't mind me chiming in, but I think the cloying handicaps he had in his Melee incarnation should suffice. I remember GB's attacks dealt extreme knockback. Now, that was in adventure mode, especially on very hard.

Look, we know that GB's immune to flinching, not damage. I say to reflect on how highly challenging it was to dispose of him back in Melee, he takes roughly x0.4 damage from opponent's moves while dealing roughly x1.6 knockback to them. This way, when the Final Smash is over Bowser'll be less likely to be at a huge%, where he's likely to get taken out.

It may seem over-powered, but I do believe it is in line with the whole boss archetype.

Having played a fair bit on For Fun Team Battles and getting Giga Bowser a fair few times, I actually think he is alright.

I do agree that while a lot of his attacks are a bit on the weaker side, so long as you use his stronger attacks it still gets the job done. Like his Up smash still hits like a truck and utilt isnt so bad at high %. Generally if they are at 70% or so one solid up smash can down someone quickly.

I liked your changes, particularly with fsmash as yes its quite weak in its current state even when fully charged. But I think an additional buff which could help would be a simple time extension. Maybe another 2 to 4 seconds or so as, like you said, some attacks arent so great when against the clock.

Still my favourite Final Smash though. Nothing quite like players running away from your godzilla super form.

The main thing to keep in mind is that normally, Giga Bowser is less powerful than giant Bowser. Whenever Bowser acquires a Super Mushroom, his attacks deal somewhere around 1.5625x more damage than normal, which is more than what Giga Bowser could ever pull off. One notable example is the f-smash, where giant Bowser's f-smash can potentially make instant KOs on even the heaviest fighters when fully charged, while Giga Bowser's f-smash doesn't even come close to KOing the lightest fighters at 0% damage.

With a time limit of only 480 frames and being less powerful overall than giant Bowser, Giga Bowser basically felt like an underwhelming Final Smash fighter, especially when compared to Giga Mac and Mega Lucario, who are both quite lethal with their attacks. Even Wario-Man has something going with his crazy off-stage game.

Basically, the buffs to Giga Bowser simply make it so that he can compete with giant Bowser more easily, if not surpass him at certain areas.

Edit: I made one more change, which is for the aerial Whirling Fortress. It can now deal up to 60% damage if all 11 hits connect. That's 6% more damage than what giant Bowser's aerial Whirling Fortress can deal; giant Bowser's aerial Whirling Fortress deals up to 54% damage if all 11 hits connect.

He does have some 0-death combos though if i'm not mistaken, it's been a while since I messed around with him. Knockback increases make sense too since it's a final smash. Or you could just turn him into Brawl Minus Bowser for the rest of the game. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

All that I can say is compare giant Bowser to Giga Bowser, and you'll definitely see a power difference between the two. I've done a large amount of experiments, and you just know that something is not right if getting the Smash Ball is less rewarding than picking up a Super Mushroom.

Heck, when you compare giant Little Mac to Giga Mac, even with the Super Mushroom effects, Little Mac is still inferior to Giga Mac when it comes to damage output.

Of course, while some of my Giga Bowser buffs may not necessarily deal as much damage as with giant Bowser's attacks, the differences can sometimes be seen with the knockback. An example is the Bowser Bomb, where even though giant Bowser deals 31% damage with it, it KOs Mario at around 45%, while Giga Bowser's Bowser Bomb KOs Mario at around 42%, despite dealing slightly less damage (30%).

Based on past experiences with double posts, a warning or infraction tends to happen if you make consecutive posts in a short amount of time. If no one replies after you within a week, however, then you should be okay.

I always thought Giga Bowser was kind of underwhelming in this game. If I'm not mistaken, they even reduced his timer in this game which is a shame. Every second you are in that form counts, so I usually go with moves with huge hitboxes when using it. Since Gigs lack the raw power that it is supposed to have, one has a to take advantage of his huge area of effect moves namely up smash, fair and down smash. I always hoped that a patch would come and buff it, but alas it was for naught.

Have you seen Giga Bowser's f-smash in Brawl? Its knockback scaling is just pathetic (5 BKB + 60 KBG), especially when you see this video. Brawl Bowser's f-smash offers far better knockback scaling with its most damaging hitbox (23% damage + 25 BKB + 81 KBG).

Smash Wii U isn't any better, as the damage dealt got nerfed, and the knockback scaling still feels underwhelming when compared to Bowser's f-smash (25 BKB + 98 KBG), where while it normally deals 23% damage with the strongest hitbox, the damage dealt increases to 35.88% damage after a Super Mushroom boost. Combine that with the 25 BKB and 98 KBG, and that kind of power can potentially 1-hit KO even a normal-sized Bowser. Giga Bowser can't even 1-hit KO a Jigglypuff with his f-smash sweetspot.

Frankly, the way Giga Bowser's f-smash got treated feels like something that should've been given to the f-tilt attack, and even then, my own buffs to the f-tilt offer better knockback scaling (48 BKB + 84 KBG) than the unedited f-smash (45 BKB + 72 KBG).

And for those who don't fully understand hex, my buffed f-smash for Giga Bowser has 32 BKB and 112 KBG; the sweetspot hit deals 36% damage when uncharged (slightly more damage than giant Bowser's f-smash). The BKB did get nerfed, but that's pretty much meaningless with a 112 KBG value that can enable Giga Bowser to make potential 1-hit KOs on even Bowser with a fully charged hit with the head.

Brawl in general was pathetic. I like what you buffed though.

I even recreated the buffs for Brawl, but Brawl's physics are much different from Smash Wii U's physics. For some examples, in Brawl, it's more difficult to land all 11 hits with the aerial Whirling Fortress, since the first hit's knockback doesn't get neutralized by the weaker hits; in Smash Wii U, the first hit's knockback gets overwritten by hits 2-11.

The down throw can make KOs below 100% damage in Brawl, but in Smash Wii U, the down throw KOs far later, as the throw hitbox's knockback overwrites the knockback of the body slam that has a bury effect for those caught in the crossfire.

And lastly, the Bowser Bomb can only score up to two hits in Brawl. In Smash Wii U, it could potentially score up to three hits when used on the ground, but that's easier to pull off against big or heavy targets.

On one final note, the reason why I made the first hit of Giga Bowser's d-tilt deal fixed knockback is so that it'll be easier for Giga Bowser to land the second hit if the first hit strikes any aerial targets; normally, the first hit deals increased knockback as the opponent's damage grows, which can eventually make it harder to land the second hit when used on aerial targets. The first hit also serves as a nasty edge-guarding move that can lead to an inevitable TKO for the opponent if his/her vertical recovery doesn't travel far enough vertically to grab the stage ledge.
