Lucas's stick?

Alright so I saw in a video where lucas sent a pikmin back at olimar with the stick (kind of like he reflected it). So I was wondering does the stick work as a reflector on all projectiles? and does the same go for ness's bat? in melee and in brawl?

never really looked into the earthbound kids but they seem to have some awesome moves i never heard of and want to add it to my list of bewares. (things that can be bad for me)

Ness and Lucas can both reflect projectiles with their bat/stick in both Brawl and Melee.
