I don't think I'll ever use the Wiimote unless I have to (though I would like to at least know how to use it for those instances). I'm not saying the GC controller is better... there might very well be some interesting applications of the Wiimote+Nunchuck configuration. But I've spent way too many hours playing Melee (and N64 too was almost the same) to switch now.
It would take so much of my time just to learn to use that controller effectively, much less the time it would take to completely relearn all my finger movements. I've played Smash for so long that half of what I do is on instinct. And relearning all those instinctive button presses would take far too long for the change to be worth it imo.
Now... I am trying some new things, and I'm willing to experiment with my button layouts. For instance, I've already changed my C-Stick to the "B-Stick" configuration, and I also have R mapped to Jump (I never used those buttons in the first place

). I'll probably end up switching some other buttons around before I'm done. But I'm not going to take the time to learn a whole new controller, at least not for a very long time.
Good luck though, I could imagine some pretty cool results coming from that switch, if you're willing to take the time.
