Marth. Sonic if you use him correctly. Still I wouldn't take Lucas lightly.

Sonic? Are you kidding me?

Go with Game and Watch or Toon Link. Easily two of Lucas's hardest matchups. With G and W, bucket PK Fires and gimp PK Thunder recovery. Abuse the turtle and fishbowl as necesary. They will outrange and outprioritize most of Lucas's options unless he spaces perfectly. Toon Link just projectile spam and keep him at a distance until you can get in for some Bair combos or a kill move. Lucas has trouble getting in range because of TL's superior projectile game. Metaknight has a pretty solid advantage against Lucas as well. Marth of course you have the grab release at your advantage but don't overestimate yourself. Lucas still has you when he's at a distance because of Marth's lack of projectiles.

MK has a solid advantage against most characters, if not all. x_X

G&W's d-throw to d-smash is a good way to throw Lucas off stage.

Lucas definetly has the advantage against Falco and Zelda. Where do you people get this stuff? Snake only has a slight advantage if you know how to handle him.

Play against Tenki if you haven't already. He'll show you his moves.

I've played plenty of good Sonic players. It's simply not that hard of a match up. Sonic has such low priority that even Lucas's Nair outprioritizes many of his aerials. The fact that you may have trouble with one specific Sonic player indicates a gap in skill level between you and him perhaps but is not indicative of the matchup itself. By your logic I could say that Ness is good against Marth in Melee. Just play Simna. He'll show you his moves. Now put Simna up against Ken, a player with equal or greater skill. The matchup is much clearer (I think there's actually a vid of this on youtube somewhere if you care. It's pretty depressing if you're a Ness fan.) In a match between a Lucas player and a Sonic player of completely equal skill, I can almost guarantee Lucas would win. Since the OP is looking for a counter against Lucas, there are tons of WAY better choices than Sonic.

I guess I'm not good then. Also, why is it depressing if I'm a Ness fan?

Watching the vid of Ken ****** Simna in Melee is depressing for Ness players.

We all love you Simna.

Wasn't trying to imply that you're not good. You may just not be good at that particular matchup creating a skill gap between you and Tenki. Beats me. Never played the guy or you for that matter.

Yeah, I saw that video and the first thing I noticed was how long that match was. I saw Ness die twice and then I thought that the video either cuts out or Marth ends up winning. That was quite an interesting match, too. :ohwell:

A defensive Zelda can always beat an offensive Lucas
And her smashes r way faster than Lucas's smashes.
Even though she cant spam Din's Fire, doesnt mean she cant win against Lucas
As for Falco his reflector, running up smash, and CG is trouble for Lucas.

I'm not even remotely convinced. You can DI out of many of Zelda's smashes so they really shouldn't be that big of a problem. I've played some good Zelda players and had no trouble. Obviously you have to know what you're doing. If you're running in with SH Nairs then yea obviously you're going to get punished. Play intelligently and you easily have the advantage. At no point did I say that she can't win against Lucas. That's just stupid.

Falco's CG isn't really all that bad especially since you have Falco so beat in the air. Edgeguarding him is a snap as well. The advantage isn't huge for you but it is there.

A very intelligent Marth will have the advantage on Small stages. Also, if you space yourself correctly, Lucas' will be a lot easier, assuming he isn't just spamming PK Fire. Game & Watch though is probably the biggest Lucas' threat IMO. His attacks are too lightning quick, and he pretty much out prioritizes Lucas. Also, easy gimps. Have to use your Pk Fire with care and Pk Thunder recovery sparingly.

That's for me to know
Ice Climbers can also do some major damage since they can cancel out PK fire with an Ice Block no matter how late the move was started. Even if the ice block just appeared and got hit by the PK fire, it's diagonal hitboxes just goes over the Ice Climber's head, preventing all PK fire approaches and spamming since Ice Climbers can also de-synchronize their ice blocks allowing one Ice Climber to use an ice block to cancel the PK fire and the other to chase Lucas while he is wavebouncing.

Also, Ice Climbers have an advantage over Lucas with their chain grabs since Lucas has the breaking away animation after being released making it easier for the Ice Climbers to regrab Lucas if he get's out of a grabbing hold.

Blizzard and squall hammer can also be a hassle and since Ice Climbers have good recovery with squall hammer and belay, it is hard to gimp them or set up a b air spike.

I might be wrong about Ice Climbers being good against Lucas, maybe because I main them, but from the way I see it, it is about 60:40 when it is Ice Climbers verses Lucas.

Mmmm not sure. I honestly think the ICs are a pretty even matchup against Lucas. Nana is great for blowing up PK fires on for damage to Popo. Also Nairs and Dairs split up the Ice Climbers, disabling their chaingrabs. Once Nana is off the edge you can pretty much always kill her with an Usmash or Dsmash as she's coming back unless the IC player goes back to save her. Once she's out of the way you've pretty much taken out their main form of racking up damage and killing. The ICs can be a pain with their B moves and obviously until you split them up you really have to watch out for those CGs but compared to a lot of characters, Lucas actually has some good options for stopping chaingrabs before they start. If I was feeling generous I might even give Lucas a slight advantage in this matchup but that's just my personal opinion.

regarding the match of ken vs. me in melee: just some things to factor in

-marth had stage advantage
-ken is of greater skill than me(not equal to)
-marth only has a MINOR advantage over ness in melee provided that ness gets stage advantage(because that didnt happen and instead marth got a stage to HIS advantage the overall advantage to marth vs. ness was much bigger....that in combination with ken simply being a better player than i am lead to the results seen in the video^_^)

if it means anything, i played ken again at 0C3 (rather than evo2k7 where that other match was recorded) and we fought on FD where Ken beat me with 2 stock and high% remaining(low 100s)
