Lucas' defense is the butt.

1) Slow grab that doesn't reach very far
2) Mediocre aerials out of shield
3) Slow second jump so it's hard to escape juggles.
4) Spaces poorly

This thread is for getting buff when the going gets tough? Post up how you get out of bad situations!

1) I grab only when the other person is recovering and I know you can get them. Or do it occasionally while shielding to mix things up. If timed right, the opponent isn't prepared to attack you if you miss.

2) Short Hopping seems to work well with most ariels. F-air, if timed right, still has enough priority to cancel or hit the opponent.

3) A well timed D-air can typically get you out of juggles. And if not, a well timed dodge. And if not, I use pkt and guard.

4) I make space with Pkf. Spam it, short hop spam it. Whatever it takes =)

There are usually better options than grabbing since they're so nerfed in Brawl so I don't even bother grabbing with Lucas unless it's guaranteed. I find Nair out of the shield quite handy. Airdodging, nairs, and PK Thunder work for me for escaping juggling. PK Fire is amazing for spacing. I don't have a clue where you're even coming from for this.

I'd agree with the grab being slow if you miss, but it does reach pretty far ...

And for the rest of the questions, I'd look at the posts above.

I agree with all points except 3 and 4. No combos mean you don't have to jump out of juggles. Spacing is all about the pk fire, and the trajectory that they expect you to travel can be vastly altered by simply not using pk fire.

Try ftilt out of shield, it's pretty good.

As for grabs, don't use them unless the opponent is in some kind of lag.

instead of shield grabbing, just drop the shield and pivot grab

but I agree with you, Lucas' defense game kind of sucks =/
So all he's left with is a camping game, which he's fairly good at.

I'd suggest never shield grabbing or pivot grabbing fluked attacks. If they hit your shield, short hop a nair; more damage and leads into tilts. If they miss and are a short distance away, tilt or smash. Lucas' grab is his slowest and isn't too much faster with a pivot considering the amount of time it takes to pivot, it'll almost always be a better idea to tilt, smash, or sh fair.
