Low Tier Melee Ruleset?

If you don't know what low tier melee is, it's when the top tiers are banned and the lower characters are allowed to flourish. I've wanted to see more tournaments like this, but there's no standard rulesets. Who gets banned? I decided to create my own.

BANNED CHARACTERS
1. Falco
2. Fox
3. Jigglypuff
4. Sheik
5. Marth
6. Peach
7. Ice Climbers
8. Captain Falcon

These are the characters you see EVERYWHERE in compettive Melee. Another character we could add to that would be Ganondorf since he seems to have great matchups against low/mid tiers. Another variation could be:

9. Dr. Mario
10. Pikachu
11. Samus
12. Luigi
13. Ganondorf
14. Mario

I'd like to see a low-tier Melee tournament comprising of characters that are truly low tier. So yeah, I'd ban the A tier characters since they're still considered "high tier", despite how their performance makes them look. They still FAR outclass the mid and low tier characters.

Yeah, maybe there should be both mid tier and low tier Melee. But the only character that seems unstoppable in mid tier Melee is Ganondorf.

Low tier tournaments usually have the issue that as lowtiers are really really easy to beat due to glaring weaknesses that are very easy to exploit. If you fight a kirby it doesn't matter if you use fox or link, kirby is slower with crappier hitboxes a worse recovery combogame etc. So lowtier tournaments mostly end up being tournaments of what is the highest unbanned character. (sometimes outside of characters that are good but different to play like ics pikachu or yoshi)
I personally believe top tiers are more fun to play, lowtiers generally aren't that fun to me. (though at some point I tried messing with yoshi) If I could not play the toptiers I would literally go along with the tierlist on what to play in a tourney like that. (or more likely not enter cause I can't play characters I want to play)

Theres a tournament somewhat close to me that uses all characters in B tier and below, excluding Young Link who can run circles around the rest of the low tiers (Literally and figuratively). They've run it multiple times, so I think its been successful.

Flippy Flippersen Flippy Flippersen Of course Kirby won't get much representation in a low tier tournament, but then again Samus and Pikachu don't get much rep in a normal tournament. You'll probably see a lot of Pichu, yoshi, link, DK, etc. because you have to keep in mind that nobody cares about the low tiers, so most of the exact placements are disputed.

Yeah, Link would be top tier in a low tier tournament. At least those characters get more of a spotlight on them. Kirby would only be viable if you banned all the other characters lol.

Low tier teams is great fun though. Usually we ban the characters mentioned as well as Yoshi, DK, and the Links (which doesn't leave much but whatever).

Edit:
I guess you would call it bottom tier? It's Roy, Mewtwo, Ness, G&W, Pichu, Kirby, Zelda, and Bowser. Pretty limiting but since most people don't play these characters I think it's a blast.

That's probably the way to go. All of those characters are almost equally viable IMO. It's pretty interesting only having 8 viable characters both here and normal Melee. I could finally bring out my Pichu and destroy people! Who's your low tier main?

Usually I go Roy but I can play a little Mewtwo too. I suck with both of them though lol I just can't play the others at all

You just transform back, at least in a friendly situation. Idk about an actual tournament

But now that I think about it a stock forfeit would make sense. You shouldn't be hitting down b anyway and it's not like Sheiks do it

I think Pichu is the most underrated character in the game. It seems a little strange that a character designed to be the worst is actually pretty good. There's so many top players can wreck with Pichu that I still wonder why he's considered the second worst character. Granted that is mainly for exhibitions and friendlies but still. I think Zelda is the most overrated. All she has is dair and down smash! Kirby is definetly the worst though lol
