Looking to improve

I'm a casual on and off smash fan but with the new game and it's updated engine along with the rediculous roster, I really want to see if I can compete in the game.
I tend to gravitate towards more traditional fighting games and it has been a really awkward transition.
I'm a Cloud main (for now) because I like his neutral game and good toolbox. I tend to gravitate towards rushdown characters so I started with sheik but while I felt I was controlling matches and out playing my opponents I was having a really hard time finishing.
So I guess I am looking for advice on some good tech for cloud and advice on how to consistently finish with sheik. Or even a suggestion for a better fitting character.
