Hello whoever is reading this. I'm one of the the two lead developers for a modpack called Brawl Refined. We're aiming for more of a Brawl styled gameplay build that removes some of the unhealthy aspects of Brawl while trying more to balance the cast. So far we're currently in pre-alpha, approaching beta, but we do need experienced players for playtesting and feedback. Or if you're interested in contributing to the modpack we would welcome you with open arms.

We're aiming to keep the gameplay as close to Brawl as possible, but we have done a few changes in the existing build:

-Momentum and hitstun canceling is now gone
-Being able to air dodge out of tumble has been removed to promote more offensive gameplay, and reward hits, while not cutting into the game's defensive options
-Tripping is gone enabling things like foxtrotting or dash dancing without worrying about having control taken away from your character
-We're in the process of nerfing some character recoveries so there's a bit more counterplay and to promote more interactions between players
-Characters who've already undergone some revisions: Lucario, Snake, Meta Knight, Ness, Lucas, Samus, Zero Suit Samus
-We're aiming to fix certain bugs for characters like Ness and Lucas with their grab releases (already fixed), Ganondorf with his RCO landing lag, and more
-Certain rebalances, like Lucario's aura, have been looked at but need more playtesters for
-Buffing characters like Falcon, Link, Zelda, Jigglypuff, or Ganondorf is a priority to help bring the cast more in line with a Pikachu/Wario power level for competitive play
-This build contains more stages and music selections
-There is a branch coming up with additional characters, like Lucina and Mewtwo, but the primary goal is to focus on the vanilla Brawl cast

There are still a ton of plans to implement and adjust characters. We're slowly rolling out changes, with Samus being the latest character in a decent position to release. If you're interested, please check out the Discord for any kind of inquiry, or just want to play the latest release: https://discord.gg/TbcGmqxHeu

This has been a passion project of mine for a while and while it's had its ups and downs, I can say we're getting pretty close to a public test build. Optimistically, the first major full (re) release would be mid to late 2025.

(I say "re" there because there's technically already a release but it's from like, 2018, it's old and... not very good lol. Its age also shows with the use of archaic tools that these days have much much better alternatives. Like Mewtwo2000's ASL tool, JOJI's code-based my music and other stuff like that)

However, we do lack firepower in terms of development. It's been hard to get stuff that requires code edits or module edits and any attempts to make edits or fixes that would need this has been largely unsuccessful and has taken up the majority of our time. Additionally, resources on that front seem to be vague, fragmented and unclear for newcomers trying to learn, so if you have any experience in those fields, please let us know! Even just one person making the smallest of code/module edits who simply has enough to know what they're looking at can drastically speed up our pace.
