well theres probably as much lag when someone is 2 houses away as there is when they are 2 hours away. But also the connections can affect this. TURN OFF YOUR WAVEBIRDS when playing online.
I know there are a few people who popped up in vacaville when brawl was released so check all is brawl for some people who live near you.
