Looking for help replacing Ivysaur with Pichu Project M 3.5

I don't really like Ivysaur so I feel that his character slot could be better used by adding Pichu to Project M 3.5 instead. After a little digging I found out that Project M Unbound beta 0.3 contains a working Pichu character so I thought I'd use that data to overwrite Ivysaur. A rather simple plan, as it turns out though it isn't as simple as I'd hoped it would be. I have two main problems:
1. Pichu sounds like Ivysaur
2. If you try to use a special move while playing Pichu the game will freeze and make a rather loud buzzing sound

Here's a video of what I've got currently, make sure you turn your volume down:

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong and how to fix it or have a better idea of how to do this?

For the sound file, it's because you forgot to put Pichu's sound file in the sfx folder and rename it to replace Ivysaur. Also, it's totally possible to change the CSS stuff

For the freeze, but did you transfer all the .pac files?

I totally forgot about the sfx folder because none of the files in it are named intuitively, I'm going to have to check to see which number is Ivysaur's and which one belongs to Pichu. I think I transferred all the .pac files I'll have to double check and get back to you on that.

Edit:
I double checked that I'd copied all the .pac files I copied all the ones I could find in the fighter folder, and I renamed them replacing "Pichu" with "PokeFushigisou". I did a bit more testing though and as it turns out the only special move that freezes the game is Neutral B.
Side B make Pichu curl up for a head but and then just freeze like that.
Down B makes Pichu try to use thunder to no avail.
Up B makes Pichu warp to it's current location making it the worst recovery move in the game but a pretty good MegaMan taunt impression.

As for the sfx I have no idea how I'm supposed to edit those so getting that to work properly may take a while...

I'm not that good with sfx, but I think the Pichu sound files is one of the bosses from SSE (except Duon and Galleon, since those are for Mewtwo and Roy), so 32X.sawnd should be it

I think the problem might have something to do with the ft_pichu.rel file in the module folder that I couldn't figure out what to do with. While I was double checking the files to make sure I copied everything I noticed I just put that file in the module folder without renaming it because I didn't know what I should rename it to.

I'm going to have to look up some tutorials on how to edit .sawnd files because I currently have no idea how to overwrite Ivysaur's sfx with Pichu's even if I could find all of the sound effects to do it with.

I know I can edit the CSS stuff as well but I want to do that last because my brother loves Pichu and I don't really want him to be constantly crashing the game when we play it will just be a surprise one day, when Ivysaur gets replaced with a working Pichu.

The PMDT didn't bother leaving the files they haven't modified, to save memory on the SD card
Good to know for future reference, but as it turns out renaming the file didn't fix the freezing problem so now I'm back to having no idea what the cause is.

Porting characters aren't as simple as renaming their files to one another. A hacked character is specifically built over a character in particular (pichu in this case was originally built over pikachu and the "fit_pichu.rel" contains such data for a pikachu based character). From what I'd guess, to fully get this working over Ivysaur, you're need a proper rel port, not a renaming job.

This is all speculation based on what I understand of modded characters, so take it with a grain of salt.

Why didn't I think of that? I feel so stupid!

But isn't there a limited number of characters who can be .rel ported without glitches, with Ivysaur not being one of them?

iirc that's the case. I know there are some characters that require additional codework to work correctly with their ports. Whether Ivy falls into this case though I'm not sure.

I'd kinda figured that something like this was the problem... unfortunately I don't think I'm quite up to the task of a custom rel port for Pichu over Ivysaur... unless anyone knows where I could find a tutorial for that kinda thing. Either way my plan to swap the two over the course of a weekend is pretty much doomed at this point.

Removing Ivysaur is pretty much impossible (unless you mind glitches), but as we said above, it works really well with other characters.

But this tutorial should help you easily (not mine and the tutorial is for Marth only, but there's a link for other characters).

Thanks for the link to the tutorial. I guess if I can't replace Ivysaur I'll just replace some one else then. Maybe I'll swap Ice climbers for the Pichu Brothers, after all Melee Pichu has the same voice as Pichu Little so I'd only need some sfx for Pichu Big, and a slightly edited Pichu model. I'll have a look at that tutorial and see what I can do.
