I was assigned a logo project for my Des Comm class, and I had to use my first and last initials, and end with "d" (JWD). So I generated 50 ideas, and was hoping to get some feedback.

1.) Which is clearest

2.) Which is coolest

3.) Which walks the middle ground (perfect harmony of clear and cool).

Also, suggestions to make things cooler/clearer are welcome and expected.

They are numbered for convenience.

You don't really have anything square-ish...do more thumbs!

But out of these I think probably 24 is the best.

Also, when it comes to design stuff like this, simple is always best.

i liked 12, 19, and 41. out of those 19 is the clearest, but i would say 12 is the coolest idea. i would try to take the idea of 12 and work on making it clearer and easier to see the letters. the same could be said for 41, but it is already pretty clear.

good work!

Here's my run-down. Fvd is right, simple is nearly always best.
With that said:
The best simple ones are 1, 7, and 24
The coolest one is 38

I would avoid ones like 4, 11, 12, and 21... there's just too much going on.

I would say that you can make 38 really the best if you made the lines a bit more pronounced. Your other examples that are similar to that are a bit to hard to follow. If you can't make 38 work for you then I would focus on the other simple ones I mentioned.

While some of them are cool, the assignment was a logo. A relatively ambiguous logo stays that way for a while, but after countless sightings it becomes a thing of second nature to the viewer. When I think of a logo, I think of something that immediately prompts me to remember the company or group name from a t-shirt, advertisement, etc.

17, 24, 33, and 43 do that for me. They are unique and eye-catching, yet once the viewer becomes accustomed to them, they are simple enough to make that viewer think right away, "Oh hey, that's JWD, the awesome graphics company!"
