Hey guys. My friends and I are loving Project:M, but lately I have been having this itch I really need scratched, and it is a bit of an odd one: I really want a character who is more or less a grappler similar to more traditional fighting games. Granted, there is some stuff here and there, from Ganondorf's Side-B to Bowser's Side-B, but neither of those are what I would call "definitive" command grabs.

...Speaking of Bowser, I stumbled upon his iteration in Brawl Minus. Simply put, his grabs there are totally what I am looking for. Thing is, he obviously is different there, and not just in the obvious aspects. I guess where this is going is, how difficult would a "workable", as in fits into the PM style decently if not gracefully, version of this Bowser be to make? I wouldn't mind doing what could be "easier" work, but if it involves esoteric code or re-modeling/animation, I neither have the expertise, tools, nor desire to go that far (although anyone who did should totally go for it :p). I am guessing it is that difficult, but I felt compelled to ask.

A followup would be, is there any other known attempt at a grappler character throughout all of the character mods that could work in PM?

Thanks for those who read this, and this is an awesome mod! This is just more of something I really would want in general, as opposed to "needs" to be in this mod or anything, so I hope it doesn't come across like that... I just like my grapplers.

You could take a look at Lucario. He has this awesome downward throw for his aerial side-B, and a grapple-like move on the ground (pretty much a command grab). I don't know of any other content you could look at, though.

Huh, I don't know if I have ever noticed Lucario having those throws... I'll check him out. And thanks for dropping by!

Bwahaha! That looks awesome, although that may be a little too much for me (or at least my friends who play...)

I assume you are looking for someone like Zangief? DDD revolves around grabbing. He has a huge grab range and all four of his throws are excellent. His back and fthrow set up off stage stuff, and his d and uthrows set up combos and chain grabs. He also has a swallow, which is similar to a command grab. It has a long range in comparison to regular grabs, and you can do a few cool things out of it. DDD is probably the most grab-centric character. You can really grab hard with Marth, his grab range is huge and all his throws are sweet. Ike can fly across the ground and then cancel into a grab. Couple that with his awesome throw game and you have the potential for a good gappler. Ike has probably the longest grab range because of his side-b. really fast characters like Captain Falcon can be played like grapplers, but you need to be really good at tech chaasing. I'll let youknow ifI think of other characters, but DDD seems like your best bet.

Hmm. Doesn't sound bad, actually. Plus I find DDD pretty fun in general, what with all the waddle-dees and dat smash, and the combination of multi-jump and size is pretty cool (he's what, the 2nd or 3rd heaviest in the game?) So is he more prone to grab and then combo, or more chain grabbing? I imagine he'd like it if he can occasionally land a heavy move, but... damn are they slow.

OH, and does DDD have any armor? I haven't played him enough to really get a feel for that (and haven't gotten 2.6, either...)

He's does both. On fast fallers his uthrow is a great chain throw, and for everybody else his other throws just set up combos. I have a friend who uses him a lot, and what he likes to do at kill % is use the waddle dees to push somebody near the ledge, grab him, throw him off, and use his fair to keep them off the stage. In terms of racking up damage, dthrow combos into a lot of his aerials very nicely. Nair and Uair have some good juggles. Additionally, all of his tilts are good out of throws. Ftilt is primarily an edgueguard option, but I don't know a whole lot about his other tilts. His heavy hits are actually not too slow. Dsmash comes out fairly quickly, and it's still pretty powerful. his fair is actually quite quick, and it's one of the more powerful aerials out there. You should watch Fly Amanita. He has the best DDD out there.

So then what would you classify Bowser as in the game? He obviously has the heavy tank thing going, but I wonder how much of his gamer could be built around his side-B.

But I'll definitely check out DDD. As well as your Mewtwo when I next play. ;)

Bowser is interesting. I honestly don't know how to classify him since I have never closely watched someone play him. From what I can tell he actually spends more time hanging on to edges than hanging on to opponents. You probably could build a good game around his side-b. I'm about to test a fixed Mewtwo now, so I'll let you know if I am successful.
