Smash Champion
Sup guys. it's been a while. I just today came back to the boards, mainly to see how the game's been developing. Guess what I saw? Tons of characters looked great. Reminded me of the release of Accent Core- EVERYONE looked amazing. So in this thread I'm gonna make a list of the real standouts as I find them, along with special features and maybe a vague guess at eventual tier placement *at our current understanding of the game*. My soures are mainly the character forums and gameplay videos.
Note: this is not meant to be a tier list of any kind. It's more like a place to summarize some of the coolest parts of new movesets. As such, I will focus on newcomers and vastly changed vets first.
IKE
Ike is beast. Ike is also slow. These two are linked. He kills at about half the percents most others do, and every move except a single jab kills. However, many of his attacks ae quite slow. His moveset has a few catagories- some moves are slow and rediculously strong. Some are slow and not really strong enough to be worth it. And some are pretty fast, yet still strong. He DOES have a few rather fast moves like bair, and his specials are quite good (look up Grand Viper in the ike forum). He also is quite heavy, and has plenty of super armor (I saw an Ike take a firefox to the face while charging Eruption and not bat a whisker, TWICE. Led to deep-fried fox). Lest you think he is all good... he is very slow. Yes, again. His recovery is flat out bad. Niether recovery move will auto-sweetspot and niether cover too much distance. I'd say he has a decent chance of cracking the top third on tiers, because he's hard to knock off and kills easily. He's especially deadly because he can outprioritize incoming aerials, making him somewhat hard to approach.
FALCO
The impression I got is that Falco is awesome. Still a combo beast, he now has an actually good recovery. However, many of his moves have changed, meaning that while he can still combo, it won't be the same combos, if that made sense. Shine is wierd now- he sorta throws it. Looks like he can still SHL and even SHDL, but I'm unsure if it's still as effective. I've no doubt he can hit high tier.
LUCARIO
Imagine Mewtwo, but buffed up and made cool. MookieRah made a really good post comparing the two in the Lucario forum- check it out. For now, cool stuff includes wallsticking, doing more damage as he RECIEVES more damage, a counter, decent speed, and a powerful moveset. Mid tier or better, maybe. His recovery is a bit weak, IMO.
OLIMAR
Reminds me of ICs in Melee because of how wierd he is. Pikmin powers are neat, like tossing 'mins to block the path of a recovering opponent. I have no idea how good he is, mostly cuz he's kinda odd.
WOLF
Wow. I've heard him compared to Melee Shiek. Quite good power, MASSIVE range. NOT A CLONE! His shine reflects things at DOUBLE SPEED. Side-b angles upward. Up-b has hits at the end, or something. Laser is slow but strong. His moves combo into each other very well, and he has a lot of "flow". Leet.
MARTH
Imagine Melee Marth. Take away some range, but make the tip evev more powerful. Now remove almost all lag from his attacks (urp!). Enough said, I think.
POKEMON TRAINER
All the Pokemon are pretty useful. I originally thought only Charizard was good, but they just have different playstyles. Squirtle is lighter and dodgier, for example. Pokemon switching takes a few seconds. Charizard is a recovery beast, with gliding and jumps. Stamina comes into effect after two minutes, and causes Pokemon to move slower. I think each Pokemon might have to be tiered seperately- they have totally different movesets.
Others- Dorf seems kinda nerfed, CF got a boost in Raptor Boost (lol) being an excellent recovery move now, MetaKnight racks damage but lacks kill moves, ICs might be nerfed by no chaingrab and no wavedash, Sonic is a bit like MetaKnight, Snake has a lot of projectiles and looks beast, Samus reminds me of Zelda- she's nerfed, and overshadowed by her transformation.
More will come later (like Pokemon Trainer), as I research more. yeah, that Ike blurb is huge, but I'm gonna main him
If anyone was wondering, after this little research thing I'm now interested in playing Ike/Lucario/Wolf/Olimar, and maybe Snake.
