Since some people still think that there is only one character slot left on the website so there can only be one more character revealed are woefully misinformed. If you don't know what I'm talking about go to the official Smash Bros website and click on a character to view their page. (Mobile/tablet/Wii U users this same layout will not apply)
Visit Sonic's page: http://www.smashbros.com/us/characters/sonic.html
Main things you need to know about this placeholder:
The first two rows are the current layout, and the last two are what would happen with a new character reveal
*note that the small rectangle to the right of Pit at the bottom of the image shouldn't be there. I just got lazy with Photoshopping and forgot it was there*
Notice how the new character addition shifts everyone to the right?
Well when that happens the empty placeholder spot is removed.
This has been happening ever since the first reveal of the site.
Pit is always the last character, but depending on his position in the 9 slots in the character row, he could have many empty slots to the right of him.
This discussion first came up when there were only the initial 12 characters revealed during e3. The pages included:
1st page: Villager, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox
2nd page: Pikachu, Bowser, Pit, empty slot, empty slot, empty slot, empty slot, empty slot, empty slot
Many thought there would only be 6 more characters revealed on the site because there were only 6 empty slots to the right of Pit. However as each new character was revealed on the site they were not placed in those empty slots. They were put at the beginning of the row on the first page, pushing each slot to the right.
Each empty slot was disappearing and not being filled.
So now when we get another character reveal there will be no empty slots, and Pit will be the final character on the far right of the 2nd page. And then when we get another after than Pit will be moved to the 3rd page, where he will have 8 empty slots to the right of him.
Each character will continue to be pushed to the right until they reach that final 9th spot on a page, then they will move to the next page where they push those character slots down.
This continues until there are no more character updates.
Remember that Pit will always be the last character in the row, but not necessarily the last slot. Depending on his positioning in the 9 slots of the page he could have a few empty slots to his right.
Here is a picture of what happens when we get a 2nd character update after Sonic:
Visit Sonic's page: http://www.smashbros.com/us/characters/sonic.html
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page
- Notice how there are 9 character slots at the bottom
- Characters: Sonic, Toon Link, Peach, Luigi, Pikmin & Olimar, Villager, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Mario
- There is a small arrow pointing left beside Mario
- Click the arrow to go to page two
- Notice there are still 9 character slots, but only 8 characters in the row
- Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Bowser, Pit, and an empty slot
Main things you need to know about this placeholder:
- The new character does not appear in that placeholder spot
- They appear on the first page to the very far left (note where Sonic and other newcomers appeared)
- Each character slot gets shifted to the right when a new character is revealed
- The empty placeholder spots disappear to the right
- They continue to disappear until Pit has reached the final 9th spot of page 2
