From the day I first downloaded Project M 3.6b, I absolutely loved the idea of the Alternate Stage Loader. However, something seemed kind of... Off when I went to play Classic Mode. Certain stages will ALWAYS load their alternate (Ice Climbers will ALWAYS spawn on Summit Brawl in Classic) and others will assign certain alternate stages to different types of match-ups.
For instance, the Zelda characters really seem to love spawning on whatever the first alt is for Hyrule Castle, but sometimes they spawn on the first alt for Pirate Ship. And this is only with certain match ups! Zelda+Ganon will always show up on a different stage than Link+Tink, but always on that certain stage. It's the weirdest thing.
When you begin adding in your own alternate stages, things get even weirder. Yoshi will ALWAYS spawn on the 2nd alt for Yoshi's Story Brawl. That's it.
So, I did some experimenting with @libertyernie 's Classic Stage Editor and learned some new things. The game seems to assign whatever possible character match-ups a certain stage alt all their own. It's not random either. Yoshi will ALWAYS get the 2nd alt for Yoshi's Story Brawl and Melee. Ness and Lucas seem to always get the 1st alts for New Pork City and Onett. And (this is very strange) even though I completely removed Luigi's Mansion from Classic Mode, it still sometimes shows up when fighting Luigi or Mario Teams.
I guess my question is, what on earth is happening? I would love to figure this out so that we can start telling Classic Mode to load ASL stages as we see fit. When I asked @libertyernie he said that from what he can tell, the PMDT hasn't edited the code for Classic Mode's stages, so what could be causing this? Can we fix it?
PS: This does NOT seem to be the case for All Star Mode which loads a random alt whenever it calls up a stage. So if you have 3 alts for Delfino Plaza, when you fight the Mario fam you could end up on Delfino Plaza or any one of its 3 alts. I would love to have something similar happen in Classic Mode.
