I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this feel free to move it.

My name is Chris I've played smash for nearly a decade now. I recently found a group of fighting game enthusiasts in my area who went from a small post on shoryuken.com to now having a free venue with over 20 people and a stream. I want to do the same thing for smash.

I use to run a video game club in my high-school that was mostly dominated by smash, so I feel we can get a following pretty quickly. Setups maybe an issue due to the tvs at the venue being HD only, but I am not certain yet if we can play there yet, although I was told they were looking for more games to be brought in. As we evolve I will update this post. I'm also going to make a Facebook group and twitter so I can post updates for everyone to see.

Let's start off listing names/city/and games played

Players:
Bakuryu - Breinigsville - Melee/Brawl+/PM
Melomaniacal - Kutztown University - Melee
GeneralWoodman - Macungie - Brawl/Melee
yoshimeeko14 - Kutztown University - Melee/Brawl
randomcombo0 - Lansdale - Melee
Anselm - Kutztown University - One of those disgraceful brawl kids.
frozensoul89 - Allentown - Melee

Well, I go to Kutztown University, which I'm pretty sure is fairly close to Lehigh Valley. I play Melee pretty exclusively.

I heard Kutztown was pretty smash happy, you by chance know a Mike Metz?
Well, Brawl happy would be more accurate. I've played Mike a few times, but he prefers Brawl. Everyone at the gaming club essentially refuses to play Melee, so I stopped going. Everyone here is pretty much just casual players.

Wow I might need to smack him.. and his group. I can't believe it him and his brother use to play competitively at our club meetings. I have other people in the area to contact still so we will get something going hopefully.

It has been awhile; I haven't seen him in over a year, so he could have changed. But last I saw him he was all about Brawl.

Oh Ye of Little Faith...

Hey everybody, making me recover my password to get on this. nice to hear from some old faces. Melomaniacal, are you the Falco player from last year? I've been bringing melee recently (actually having a melee tournament this week, if you'd be interested). I've always preferred Melee over Brawl; the majority of club plays casual, however, so i went with what the majority of what people were playing. So no worries, Cookie...I've come up with several new tricks since last you saw me play. Woody's here as well? nice.

Anyone who wants to come up to the club on campus, I think it would be a good way to get everyone at one place and playing.

Cookie, I didn't really look at the specifics of what you are trying to organize; mind giving it to me in a nutshell? what kind of committment it is?

Yeah, that's me. Also play HvZ, which I'm pretty sure I've seen you around.

As far as the tournament goes, I would be interested, but the lag on all the TVs/projectors the club uses is pretty... unbearable. Really takes all the fun out. If you ever want to play, Palpi and I play often, and my roommate has been trying to get into Melee lately. I'd be down to play at some point.

You're in HvZ? cool; I honestly forget what you look like. What's your name? i'll find you on fb and we can talk more there. I agree; the lag isn't noticeable in brawl, but it really sucks in the last few weeks in the melee games we've been playing. there's only a few players there who notice it however, so w/e. I would def. be interested in playing melee with you guys at some point, we'll discuss more over fb.

Dan Reynolds.

It's pretty much as bad as lag can get in Melee, haha. Everything gets thrown off pretty bad. I made sure to bring an old-school TV to school when I came here, haha.

Hi all! I'm located in Allentown. Macungie and Breiningsville aren't far from where I am. I would totally be down to play some Melee whenever.

Added.

We got a good group so far I'm going to be exploring out venue options shortly so we can get something started soon. I'd like to start slow with it being biweekly till we get more people. Which day is preferable for you guys? Weds are good so far although I might change next semester. This wont be set in stone just a tentative day.

Any update on venues or meetings?

I'm looking as well and found something. There's a place called the Encounter in Allentown near Union Blvd and Airport Rd. Every Friday night, from 7 til 11, there are gaming stations set up in the back for people to play fighting games. I went this past Friday, and it was pretty chill. I got there just as they were packing up Brawl, so I played some UMVC3 and Blazblue instead. People brought their own systems and it was FREE to play.

Congratulations you found the venue I was talking about LOL. The only thing is with those nights many of the stations are already taken / are HD tvs so it would be rather small. We can tag along and I planned on going last Friday to talk to the owner about setting up our own night, but I got caught up in something else and didn't get a chance. They also do Weds nights as well I believe. I just finished up finals so now I have time to actually pursue this more.

LOL, seems like the Encounter is the only venue in the area! I was hoping the colleges around here might have some weekly smash meetups, but alas I didn't find any such thing. I won't be able to go to the Encounter this week, but please let us know if you get Smash going there!

This Friday I am finally off of work, I was thinking of bring a setup for some Melee/Project M if anyone else is interested. I figure right now we are probably a small enough to group to mooch of the Friday night sessions the encounter has. So that brings up an interesting point setups, who has em? I have a small TV, a Wii,2 Gamecube controllers, 2 wiimotes (if anyone wants to use them) I have a old GameCube I could bring, possible a monitor I could turn into a tv using this converter, not sure how the lag would be though.

Nice! I can definitely go to the encounter this Friday! I can bring a wii, a gamecube, 2+ gamecube controllers, and wiimotes. I unfortunately don't have any tvs that I can bring. I also have a Dazzle recorder if we want to eventually start recording games. Anyone have any small, portable CRT tvs?

Hey guys; I went to Emmaus and live around the area and pretty exclusively into melee (competitive preferably). Don't really mean to bump this thread if you guys have lost interest or something but I'm pretty desperate to join a crowd so txt me 610-737-7665

Trust me I haven't forgotten this, I've just been really busy. I need some other people to help me host this stuff. One of the great things about the other fighting group is they had 3 people running it so if one had to back out the others could take over. They still have Friday nights and in fact if no one asks me to do anything tomorrow I could possible go/bring stuff. I played a ton of smash at otakon a few weeks ago so much fun. The thing I realized there was since they only had two setups they have FFA going on one and teams on another one. Not sure how we want to workt his based on how many setups we have especially if we are running SSBM/Brawl/Project: M. We want to get as many people playing as possible obviously.

You were at Otakon? I was there too! The tvs there completely sucked for Melee (read: laggy flatscreens).

Anyways, I'm down to play tonight or tomorrow. Problem with the encounter is that their screens will definitely cause lag. I don't have a crt I can bring to mitigate this problem. :/

EDIT: @Scooby, did you want to post on this thread some information about the tournament you're having? It could be a good way to meet more smashers in the area.

Of course like always something came up Friday (friend was moving away and wanted to see him one last time before he went). As for the screens they have there we can't use them they are HDMI only we need CRTs/ Good LCDS I have an LCD I can bring, but we definitely need more then that to get something started.
