Hi, I'm Rudra, and this is my first blog. ^^ This is something I've been curious about for awhile now: The views of others about each Smash title that's been released (and created for that matter) so far.

In this case, I'd like to hear what impressions (first, and/or lasting ones) the Smash titles have left on you, whether it be from firsthand experience, watching matches, anything.

The list of Titles I'd like to hear your thoughts on are:

Smash64

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Brawl+*

Balanced Brawl*

*=Optional

---
Also, before you start, there's only one rule: Please dont argue over which game is "better" with others. If you think Brawl is better than Melee or vice versa or whatever, then dont try to argue with the other posters about it.

I haven't had more fun with any other game than Smash 64. We played item matches, and we always did it for fun.

I've practically only played Melee against computers. Nobody has ever been around to play it against me.

Brawl is really cool. I bring my Wii to school every day so that we can play it. Still, it's just not the same as SSB.

Brawl is better than people give it credit for, Melee is sexy but I cant play it, so I'm considering suicide, and SSB64 is king.

Also, the notion that you don't have to relearn anything in Balanced Brawl is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

What Syon said.

SSB was great, Melee was great, Brawl was only decent at best, Brawl+ is bad, haven't tried balanced Brawl.

♥ My post count is my age. Deal with it.
Smash 64: Too young to remember
Melee: didn't know what L-cancelling, wavedashing, etc... until like 3 years after the game came out...
Brawl: OMG! MK. Ike is broken. Wi-Fi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...... is laggy...
Melee: Got L-cancelling, wavedashing, etc... learned.
Brawl +: Chicken to hack... didn't want 20120
Brawl Hacked: Large urge too... same for 20120
Brawl: Improved ATs => new characters

That was my whole experience so far :D

Smash 64: While yes, fun, I can't help but feel that the game play is a tad on the stiff side. And playing through the same rounds over and over again in the same exact order in single player got annoying. But hell, it's still fun with the right people.

Melee: More than just superior than Smash 64, I enjoyed the verity of new modes that were added as well as characters. Even though, you know, they just mapped the same move sets onto different character models for a majority of the secret characters. But the sheer amount of fun in the multiplayer made this one of the best titles on the Game Cube.

Brawl: Yes, Brawl is good. Nicely sized roster, a wid verity of gameplay modes, hardly any cloning. And yes, its still a load of fun. More so than Melee (gasp), but you can't help but feel slightly disapointed by the disfunctional online play and it's let-down of a story mode. But whatever, no one plays fighting games for it's single-player anyway.

EDIT: In other words, BRAWL IS NOT AS BAD AS EVERYONE SAYS IT IS.

@Straked: If you were a video game reviewer, what kind of score would you give a "decent game"? About 6, I'd say. Brawl DOES NOT deserve 6 out of 10.

For the casual gamer that plays with items and doesn't care about losing to a bad player, then I'd probably say 9. It's just that good, there's so much to do, and you'll probably never get bored of it.

But coming from the competitive side, it's a pretty bad game. People will do whatever it takes to win money or even friendlies. It'd probably be a 5, maybe 6.

Melee's multiplayer when played seriously is 30 times sexier than Brawl, so um, no.
I'm pretty sure he said that people will do anything to win, even friendly's. So what I'm saying, can't it apply to any game with multiplayer that the other guy will do anything to win?

I wrote about 7 paragraphs comparing Brawl's multiplayer with some mainstream game like Halo and a few others, but it got deleted because this window closed.

So... I'll just say this.

150,000 times what Falcon said.

In Brawl, when you do anything to win, that usually means CP'ing Dedede against your friend's DK, or planking because the other person is better.

In what games can tactics like this NOT be beat?

So?
It's a party game. It wasn't designed to be competitive. Brawl is terrible for cutting down trees, but I'm not going to rate it down because axes vastly outperform it in that aspect.

Ah, now I see where your coming from. Now that I get what you mean, yeah. Brawl on the competitive scene is only "meh."

And yes, Falcon. Watching Melee matches > Watching Brawl matches.

My thoughts exactly.

If you plank the other person and win or win because of one CP, they weren't prepared to deal with it and are not worthy of being called significantly better at the game. Gay is nothing, cheap is nothing, man up or die.

64 is fun but lol, Melee is fun and good, Brawl is fun.
