Leaks? Prophets? Bah!

I am a huge Smash fan. I've been excited for Brawl ever since I saw that first trailer, and the updates on the Dojo, information from the events, and endless speculation on these forums (and others) have kept my interest high.

That being said, I'm finding myself being turned off by all of these "prophets" and "leaks". Obviously, they can't all be right, which is disappointing - some of the potential rosters are excellent, and would please a longtime Nintendo fan like myself immensely. But what disappoints me more is that people are wasting their time making these lies, simply to hype up fans like me for their own personal amusement.

Now I'm finding that I'm quite jaded because of all of this. I can't even open Wiseguy's thread in Character Discussion without thinking "This roster is fake". And I'm sure it's not just me - there are probably plenty of people out there who are tired of all of the drama, all of the prophets and leaks, and all of the speculation.

My point is, all of this crap is making me want Brawl less and less. Sure, I'll still buy it, and enjoy the hell out of it, but there's bound to be disappointments in the final roster. Now I feel that, whenever I boot up the game and look at the roster, I'll think back to this time and think "This is what the roster could have been".

Does anyone else feel this way? Or am I just being selfish?

I'm jsut upset that all of this nonsense about leaked rosters and what not kind of gets in the way of any intelligent discussion in these forums. If you are getting discouraged by the forums, why not spark an interest in psychological warfare by reading Sun Tzu's The Art of War? It might jsut help your Brawl game.

I know what you mean. I will be forever disappointed when a demonic Tortimer isn't a boss in SSE.

The majority of these 'prophets' are only out to profit from their exploits. They have too much time on their hands, and too little of things called 'morality' and 'decency'.

Well Wiseguy isn't claiming to be a prophet. XD

But the prophets and leaks are getting really annoying. They are inevitable, however. A game hyped this much will get this kind of stuff for sure. You're just going to have to ignore it, or find ways to find out what's real and what's not.

A simple way is:

If they have a picture of the roster, look at the unconfirmed characters' pictures and check and see if they're pictures we've seen or not. If they aren't pictures we've seen, well... You surely have a real leak, either that or somebody who spent way too much time making a fake one. o_O

Its not making me want Brawl less - on the contrary, its making me want it more, if only to learn whats really in it - but I certainly agree with the general sentiment. All the fake leaks and false "prophets" are definitely getting under my skin, and as far as I'm concerned the Japanese release can't come soon enough to end this madness.

It's the internet.. Can't do anything to get rid of them. Only ****** them from getting to us. Learn to analyze fact from fiction and always be skeptical then you should be fine.

Though I do enjoy that this is one of the best stable/numerous ratios.

I wonder how prophets like thealmightygoat expend valuable time doing something else thinking about fake information. Can't they do something more productive for the world? However, it makes you think, "Brawl really is an excellent game if you spend time looking at other peoples 'leaks' and hoping deep in your heart that they are right."

But seriously though, someone tell those people to shut up.

Hey, there's an idea. I've read bits and pieces of it, but I feel like my brain is slowly turning to mush - a good read should sharpen my mind in time for Brawl. :)

A simple way is:

If they have a picture of the roster, look at the unconfirmed characters' pictures and check and see if they're pictures we've seen or not. If they aren't pictures we've seen, well... You surely have a real leak, either that or somebody who spent way too much time making a fake one. o_O
Well, yeah. I don't believe any leaks anymore unless they have more than words to back them up. Words can easily be fabricated, but pictures take more time, and your average prophetfit doesn't have that kind of time.

Another thought just occurred to me. What's going to happen right after the Japanese release? Are we going to know right away what the roster is, or are the leaks going to get worse (trying to pass off lies as the real thing?) If the latter is the case, how will we know (until the pictures are released)?

I have given up on trying to believe any of the recent leaks. The game is close enough to where I do not care anymore. Even if the final roster IS among these rumors somewhere, it doesn't mean as much as seeing them in living color on the DOJO. We heard about Captain Olimar ages ago, but it is SO much nicer seeing him on the DOJO in action with other characters.

Easy tips, as mentioned above. If ANY of the characters on a roster screenshot are re-used renders from past games, it's a fake.

Notable games people rip fake images from:
-Luigi's Manson (Luigi, King Boo)
-Mario Party Games (Luigi, Waluigi, Wario)
-Super Mario Galaxy (Luigi, Bowser Jr.)
-Star Fox Assault (Wolf, Krystal, Falco)
-Star Fox Command (Wolf, Krystal, Falco)
-Star Fox Adventures (Krystal)
-Super Smash Bros. Melee (ANY of the non-confirmed characters, any character who was a trophy in Melee)
-Metroid Prime series (Dark Samus, Sylux, Ridley, etc.)

Also, make sure ANY of the roster wasn't already deconfirmed. A list of notables:
-Ashley (deconfirmed within WarioWare)
-Jimmy T. (see above)
-9-Volt (see above)
-Tom Nook (deconfirmed within Smashville)
-K.K. Slider (see above)
-Mr. Resetti (an Assist Trophy)
-Samurai Goroh (an Assist Trophy)
-Lyn (an Assist Trophy)
-Duster from MOTHER 3 (Assist Trophy)
-Electivire (PKMN Stadium 2)
