Landing Lag Fixed?

90% certain landing lag is fixed. Check 2:44 of this video where Link does his fair. The first slash of his sword cancels into the ground and he f-tilts immediately after. People have argued that it's nair, but if you pause a frame on 2:45 you can clearly see a slash animation.

This wasn't the case at the demo at ALL and shows a ton of potential for this game's competitive future. Luigi's bair also seemed to have less landing lag than the demo seen at 1:35. So excited to play this, even after the leaks etc. the game looks so well polished/fun! Thoughts? Has any of smashboards seen anything else from recent smash footage?

The framerate looks faster than normal so it might have something to do with that too.

However, maybe they did listen to the competitive community and lower landing lag. I wouldn't count it out, but I also wouldn't read too much into a small clip until the game is actually released.

Yeah, Luigi's bair looks about half the length it was in the demo. You can even see the animation jump from his halfway-up position to instantly standing upright.

Looks like they really did listen to the invitational players' suggestions. This makes me optimistic that they may have added more diverse movement options as well.

I was honestly thinking the same thing when I saw Link doing his aerial. Now we wait for true game play which shall be available in two weeks. Maybe sooner.

Now the people who've been bashing 4 all summer long since E3 are out of excuses/"proof" to back up their audacious logic defying claims that 4 will somehow suck competitively or that its just a Brawl rehash, but prettier. (hint its NOT)

Very good find OP! :)

This is looking good! Hopefully we aren't seeing this and the games landing lag has truly reduced!

Thanks, guys! I'm just as excited about all of this as you are, have been re-watching practically every "new/leaked" footage available just waiting for a character to throw out aerials. It seems as though when Shulk uses his Fair against Olimar on his reveal trailer at 1:11 there's decreased landing lag as well. Notice how he even has enough time to do a slight pivot before converting over to an Up-Smash/U-Tilt. It's just speculation though especially considering we didn't even know how quickly these moves were prior to the leak and this vid - regardless, things are looking up ^^.

Thankfully whoever was behind the controller on this clip w/ Link decided to throw out a quick F-tilt as well to solidify how quickly we're able to switch over to the next attack. Which got me thinking about buffering, jump cancels etc. but decided that it's better off to just wait until the actual release!

However.. there is PAX Prime coming up in the following week w/ both the Wii U and 3DS versions of Smash 4 available. Supposedly it's going to be the final build of the game as well, so we'll get to see what's up!

Pax is happening right now. No new build for the public, it's the same E3 one.

If they did reduce aerial lag, I hope they came up with some buffs to ground (or at least Little Mac) to balance it out. I don't want air to always be the best option like it historically has been for 90% of the cast. Alternately, if only certain moves have reduced lag (which would be reasonable), that would be fine.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If landing lag is reduced, and dash dancing is in, I will be perfectly content.

This is exciting!

Awww, lmao. That's too bad.
Now it's looking like Japan/final build or bust. I guess the way it should be in the end.

I'm completely hyped!

Pivot cancelling and "run stop cancel" as it is now called seem to be new advanced techs for ground game, mac's up smash is also a decent anti air and the up special, is similar's to samus in its start up, might still struggle against MK though. I'm not sure what to make of the vid, luigi's lag is clearly lower, but I never had issues with lag on link's forward air on the 1st strike specifically, but the roll off the edge to forward air is really cool to look at and essentially confirms that aerial momentum is more similar to melee.

Actually, according to the landing lag thread, Link's Fair has IASA frames in the demo, so it's possible that that's what we're seeing. I can't say anything about the other moves, but it's not all that clear exactly what's going on. There might have been landing lag changes, but it's also possible the demo just had hidden IASA frames that are just being discovered. We'll see soon enough.

In the footage you showed, Link lags for what appears to be 7 frames. That would mean he actually lags for 14. So it really isn't any faster than my findings as collected in this thread.

To save you the trouble, This is the data I got. The number for Sm4sh was obtained from analysing footage just as you did here, whilst the numbers for Melee and Brawl come from the frame data threads for their respective games.
Fair: 12 (Sm4sh), 15 (Melee), 10 (Brawl)

Good we get some frame data evidence in hear. I appreciate yours and others work on clearing up this hopeful hype for low landing lag. I want it to be true as much as everybody else but I cant really argue with actual data.

I want it to be true as well, but there have just been so many threads both here and on Reddit where people have been giving so many different theories and GIFs for "proof" of lowered landing lag that I decided it was time I started dissecting them myself. Nothing I've seen so far other than the leak clip of Lucina is out of the ordinary. And even that Lucina clip could just be an autocancel (which is something some people apparently don't even realise exists).

It's really amazing how many so-called "hardcore" players are unfamiliar with basic Brawl mechanics like IASA frames. When in doubt about landing lag changes, it's safest to assume that's what you're seeing until proven otherwise.
