Lag messing with me...

Kind of a little rant, but I've noticed that the slightest bit of lag really messes me up. I will go to do a smash for example and at that moment a short burst of lag happens and completely voids my input, so by the time i realize that my smash didn't go through my character is just sitting there waiting to be punished.

I know it isn't just me cause when i play offline or the main game I can pull of combos much easier.

I noticed this is just too much and I'm really thinking about getting the WiiU version, has anyone played it and noticed less lag?

The Wii U version does have less lag than the 3DS version. There was a forum post I read a while back where they were able to get a rough estimate as to the relative speed and the 3DS version was about half the speed of the Wii U version. I'll have to see if I can find it and post a link.

If you haven't tried it yet, look into your router's settings and see if you can optimize some stuff. I learned that a lot of router's default settings can choke up Peer2Peer connections. I was able to look into my QoS settings and help make sure my 3DS and Wii U had more priority for that and it gave me a decent boost in performance. I've had more matches that are smooth, and the few that have lag aren't as bad as they were. (I'm assuming you are talking about online play since you mention not having issues offline or in other modes. If not than my router advice is obviously mute. :-) )
