I just had the weirdest experience yesterday when I was playing Smash Wii U. I was gaming on my Wii U gamepad (1v1 Practice mode match against a CPU LV 9 on Omega Form Nofair) when all of the sudden the frame rate dropped like crazy and I teleported onto a bottomless pit.

Has anyone else experienced a sudden frame rate drop like this?

I think it's a rare thing on the Wii u. I once was playing mario kart 8 on the gamepad and the framerate fell hard and I ended up somewhere weird on the map

Yeah just like the comment above me, but instead I was playing Pikmin 3 I was in a heated battle and the framerate suddenly dropped and more than half of my squad was gone :[

Lying about my country.
The only framerate drops I've seen are, for some reason, when I pause the game.

It's really weird, it's like the game suddenly switches to 30 FPS mode when I pause, but only when looking at things from a specific angle or something.

Thankfully, it doesn't really affect gameplay as the game's, well, paused. But it's still weird.

Hmm weird. I knew that the Wii U had a variable frame rate (it is not locked at any set frame rate value) but I never imagined that the drop in frames to be so dramatic. If this happened at a tourney, then that would really suck for the players involved in it.

Were you using the gamepad screen? I find that happens occasionally, the gamepad may lose connection for a few frames depending on how far you are from the main console.

I was using the gamepad screen but I wasnt far away from the Wii U (maybe less than 4 feet from it).

Eh, it just seems to do it randomly sometimes. I would just pause it untill it's over if you're playing singleplayer.

I have had weird frame rate drops like once or twice during 2 battles but that's it. Nothing too major.

And I also have noticed the same thing that @ Khao Khao said about the pause screen.

I notice some frame drops if someone is directly touching Fox during Fire Fox's startup, occasionally during the credits, and I also hit some audio stuttering when changing menus, but over all, not many issues.

Sounds like a GamePad streaming hiccup to me. They happen occasionally, doesn't really matter what you are playing. I wouldn't worry about it.

I sure hope so. For a moment, I thought I was one of the unlucky individuals who received a glitchy or defective version of Smash Wii U.

It does that to me with Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 1+2 when it happens, but I think it does it more when there's a lot of wireless interference between the system and Gamepad (wireless adapters, phones, etc.).

I had this issue today in Event matches (multiple times) and once or twice in a crazy eight player Smash. It's odd when it does happen, because the game kind of "skipped." Still not sure why.

I think that along with checking if it is a digital or physical copy, the TV and Wii U version (old white one or new black one) should be checked and taken into account. My TV is 720 and I have an older Wii U. I wonder that could even have anything to do with these skips.

My Wii U is one of the newer Wii U's (its my second one actually) and my TV is somewhat of an average to below average 720p TV. Maybe my TV might be the problem but still, when I owned my first Wii U I didn't have this problem.

Example: I used to play a lot of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on my first Wii U (about 900 hours of gameplay) and about 85% of that time I played on the gamepad's screen. The only controller I had at the time was the Gamepad. I never faced such a dramatic drop in frame rate before and this was with the exact same TV I have now and with an older black Wii U.
