Well I can still jump out of the sheild and do another airial. Or roll.if your shield pops up then you may have cancelled fine, but this partially defeats the purpose of cancelling, which is to speed up your character. You can't be speedy while standing in a shield. Try to click L once right before you hit the ground, then let go of it. It can be a bad habit to break
My theory is that L needs to be depressed in some state when the landing animation starts. Since you press right before and let off, the trigger is still partially 'pressed' (since it's pressure sensitive) when the animation begins, so it skips directly to being cancelled. I'm probably completely off, but whatever.
