KOF-Style Team Groups?

I heard that someone wanted a tag team switch out, a la; MVC. Though, would it expand to 3 per character? Or maybe, it's be King of Fighters-based, in which 3 members of a team fight one at a time and a defeated member gets replaced by the next member. All 3 members must be put out to win the battle.

Essentially, 3 characters = 3 stocks.

Hell, they might even theme with team groups.

Mushroom Team: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi
Kong Team: DK, Diddy, Dixie
NES Adventure Team, Link, Samus, Pit
Dream Land: Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight
Starfox Team: Fox, Falco, Slippy
Kanto Team: Squitle, Ivasaur, Charizard
Fire Emblem Team: Marth, Ike, Chrom
Royal Team: Peach, Zelda, Rosalina(with Luma)
Boss Team: Bowser, Ganondorf, K. Rool
Psychic Team: Ness, Lucas, Mewtwo
Rival Team: Wario, Wolf, Sonic

I wanted to go from some more KOF94/95, but I figured that would bring some even bigger backlash. So, this is all I could come up with...at the moment.






Hmm... it could also go the Pokèmon route and introduce 3-on-3 fights for either Team Battles or Free For Alls.

Maybe even include a special mode where 6-on-6 battles can be played, but only with two players.

A mode like this could work well, especially aside a 2-v-2 tag team mode.
