This is a sort of "project" I was considering (assuming someone else hasn't done this already and I haven't noticed because I'm thick); by now, I'm sure that most players have seen the various types of icons/medals that appear towards the bottom of the character select screen in Smash Wii U. For those who don't know, they're called KO Stars.

My objective is to find out how many types of stars there are, i.e. I want to see the numerous types of medals on offer and find how much each is worth in terms of KO's.

Interesting idea, don't know if it's ever been fully documented before. The most I've ever gotten is the big blue medal (50 kills or something, I think?).

Easiest way to do it is, I guess, would be to go to a stock match, turn on a CPU, kill yourself, return to the CSS and record your results. Tell us how it goes, I'm interested in the project!

Where does it say they're called "KO Stars"? For most Smash fans, if you say "KO Star", they'll think you're talking about the twinkle star that appears when somebody is KO'd from the top of the screen. Anyway, if I had to guess, those emblems work a bit like Roman numerals. Or if not, their increments seem to be Roman numeral based.

I'm fairly sure it goes 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50, I've never gone to 100. 25 could be 20 though as I'm not 100% sure on that one.

People referred to KO Stars since brawl, since , y'know, KO's were displayed as stars on character select screen. You're thinking of Star KO, the term Melee (64 even) uses to refer to that method of dying.
