Over the past 5 years I have been plotting out a story in my head. The story ties in with another book called Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. It will be the first of many and this is the synopsis:
Title: Joseph's Demons: Kingsley
Setting: Yankton SD/America in General
Plot: A boy named Joseph Kingsley is a dyslexic at his school. He is always picking fights, but also one of the most loved boys at school. He has looks, girls, friends, the life. Or so it seemed. Little did he know, somewhere in the depths of the Underworld, Hades was ready to claim his son. As a son of Hades, Joseph must face a quest more dangerous than a High School Fist Fight. He must face his father who abandoned his mother, and face the fears that lurk inside his body. The only way to do all of this? Accept who he is, a son of the Lord of the Underworld.
Here is the first page and a half of the book.
CHAPTER 1: The First Nightmare
"My name is Joseph Kingsley." The reflection said.
I had just finished a dinner of corn beef and cabbage with my family before falling asleep that night. Until that day my life had been perfect. I never got sick, I never got scared, I always had good looks, and all the pretty girls liked me. When you fall asleep, everything changes, anything can happen, and anything did.
I was staring at that mirror for a good hour and a half, at least that's what it seemed like, before deciding that the reflection wouldn't speak again. I slowly turned my body to the left, feeling every muscle and bone move with me, away from the golden edged mirror, and walked down a narrow passage. As I walked my feat were lead and my shoulders were heavy, I probably looked like a 12 year old boy with a limp.
The hall was maroon colored and the sides of the walls were dripping with moisture. Compared to me the height of the hall was enormous. The runner along the wall was lined with skulls and inscribed with happy and sad faces, masks. There was a hissing, groaning noise down the hall, I thought I heard someone say, "free me, please."
The corridor seemed to go on forever without end in sight, Even with that I could still hear the hissing from...my right, now. I swung to my right and smacked my face into a wall of metal bars. Inside the cell was the most horrible thing I have ever seen.
I'd seen it once before in a Greek Mythology textbook, the thing was hideous. It had the upper body of a girl, but the lower half was what you might think a dragon would look like. It had snakes all around its legs and a tail that could penetrate a stone wall. She had a pretty face, but that was hard to pay attention to when her hair was a bushel of vipers. The area where the girl met the dragon was odd. It kept making faces of animals, the scariest thing I had ever seen.
Something scurried along behind me, maybe a rat, I jumped. I looked back to the creature, it was poking something a person, with it's wings, which were much like a bat's. The "Kampê" is what the creature was called in my textbook, I sprouted an idea, and that's when I did something really dumb.
"Kampê! Over here you ugly witch!" which I thought would have been a good idea, except when I turned to run, I got a surprise. The NEW scariest thing I have ever seen, a twenty foot long, black, centepede. No eyes, and what seemed like a billion legs that scuttled on the floor towards me. So, that was the "rat" I had heard, a twenty foot centepede.
Please tell me what you thought and thanks for reading, more posted soon?
