there is going to be a story mode on the 3ds too and we haven't heard any news about that either
I'm pretty sure we are not getting any Sm4sh U major info until the 3DS version is out.

Maybe the story-quest-adventure mode will be a Wii U exclusive. As the Smash Run was for 3DS.
Sakurai stated that there will be not a story mode full of cutscenes like the subspace emissary. But that doesn't necessary mean there wouldn't be an adventure mode like in Melee, less linear (hopefully) but still centered on the gameplay rather than on the background story, and with enemy characters coming from the nintendo games, rather than original chars just made up for SSB4.

I find it more distressing thar they've made no mention of a stage editor.

It was my favorite part of Brawl, providing limitless replay value. As limited as it was, I made some kick ass stages with it. I want the editor back and expanded on.

Sakurai seems to be wanting to keep the game modes pretty secretive. Keep in mind we haven't even gotten solid evidence of Event Modes, or anything else about All-star but a name and confirmation that assist trophies are involved. Don't worry. The stuff is there, but Sakurai probably is keeping it close to his chest.

I'm guessing the story mode might just be for Wii U as well and we will see it later on. I'm looking forward to see if we're gonna get a stage builder as well.

Sakurai said there won't be a SSE like story mode.

One of the first things he disconfirmed.

Yes, but that doesn't disconfirm a Story Mode like Adventure Mode, which I'm pretty sure is what is being asked here.

There is clearly a mode where you follow a path and can make branching decisions that will determine who you fight and what rewards you get. I've played games with more shallow story modes.

Precisely!

I know what you're speaking of. I can't wait to see more details about it.
I just wonder if it's going to replace both the classic mode and the adventure mode at the same time.

Well, Sakurai has been pretty tight lipped about most modes other than the standard stuff in general. He showed brief flashes of at least 3 brand new modes in the 3DS trailer at E3, none of which we've heard almost anything about.

I expect some PotD's explaining them either shortly before or after the game's release in Japan.
