We have seen it, Kid Icarus has more content than... well, than many would care to be okay with.
Of course, it makes sense, given that Sakurai just made the game, it is fresh in his head, and he is most familiar with this source material to integrate into smash- he has mentioned before that he has in the past been stressed about properly representing characters and other universes into one game, and this may be why Kid Icarus is an easy fall back.

He may not even realize he does it.

One of the best statements I have heard on the matter is that he is trying to add as much content from this franchise, in hopes of another director picking up the franchise, because he is not making another Kid Icarus game. This makes sense, preparing his baby for college, so to speak, to be on its own.

However, one big complaint from Brawl was that content from the Subspace Emissary was made from the Emissary itself, rather than coming from other Nintendo games. In other words, reception on original-Smash villains and enemies was not high. Sakurai created these in Brawl.
Now, knowing that he would be making Smash when he made Kid Icarus Uprising, is it possible that Sakurai in fact made enemies and items that he would want in Smash 4 and 5? That he created this content and released it earlier, in KI:U, so that he could have it in SSB4 with fewer complaints of it being original?

Could be. Though I've not played Uprising, I think I will end up preferring its enemies over the very generic Primids of Subspace. Still, I do wish he would take some greater representation from other series', especially Fire Emblem and Mother.

It's possible but I think it might just be that we haven't seen enough of it yet. Or that in order to be ready for the demo they used the resources that were readily available.

That is an interesting thought. I guess we will see how many different enemies will be in Smash Run, and we also have to see what we are getting with the Wii U version.

Hasn't he stated somewhere that he had Smash in mind while designing some of the weapons/items/etc. for KI:U?

Yes, he actually did. In an interview or something he said he has Smash Bros. on his mind while he was creating KI:U so he was probably thinking of enemies that would fit in nicely with Smash Bros.

I'd say both Pit, Palutena, and every item revealed from Kid Icarus all fits the Super Smash Bros. universe really well, and a lot of them are unique. All of them have special attributes that make them a lot more fun than other items. I'm not so sure about enemies, because I feel like they're a bit to realistic for the games. I'd much more appreciate more cartoon-y monsters, such as those from WindWaker.

While I'm not sure about your hypothesis, I do believe that most Kid Icarus representation goes in well, so I don't see it as much of a problem.

Yeah, I see a lot of resemblance KI:U and SSB4. Not a bad thing at all though. KI:U is my fav. game on 3DS!

Try saying that in front of someone who thinks KI:U is getting biased overrep.

Though I can agree KI:U is fantastic.

Edit: No, this Reshiram image doesn't mean anything but it's fitting to post it in front of someone who's called Zekrom :)

At the same time it is easier to add in an item he already designed with Smash in mind than create an item from say Wii Fit or F Zero... I personally prefer items from Nintendo franchises over the Smash Original Items as well.

As I was playing through Uprising(loved it by the way), I noticed that it felt very much like a character-specific SSB. Because it was based on earlier creations, I think it was a no-brainer to include various aspects of Uprising in SSB.

Reshiram is awesome but not as awesome as me :D
And yay another KI:U fan! It's sad that people say KI:U is over repped, seeing as Mario has like 7 reps and KI only has like 3. It's Sakurai's game after all, and the game was a huge success, even though I see where they're coming from when it comes to Smash Run enemies :/

Mario has 8 reps now, so what hypocrites.
