How effective would Young Link be JUST using sword attacks? Ive been wondering that for awhile since most players use lots of range attacks if they're Young Link. What would be his chances against players that use Fox/Falco or Sheik? I usually play without using range attacks but since i'm going to be in a tournament with many higher level players I thought i should get advice from fellow Young Links if i should start adding in range attacks or if i would be fine using just sword attacks

Just ask this question in my discussion thread!

Can't post the link for some reason, but you'll find it. It is entitled: "The Official young Link Discussion Thread"

I will be happy to answer your question whenever I have the time ^_^

you would just have to think of other ways to setup into combo's.

Umm, I don't know if grabs fall under the category of non-sword attacks, I guess they do since he uses the hookshot, but assuming they are allowed, uthrow to uair is nice for floaty/high damage, and maybe the 2-hit side smash could set something up, besides its own tiny combo.

I dont know if Young Link would be any good if he only used sword attacks.....i mean dair and d-smash are his best sword attacks...most of Young Links combos get set up with his bombs or bomerang...
Also i dont think Young Link will stand a chance to Sheik at all. he needs projectiles to keep "it" away.

Lol yeah Young Link has so much other stuff, if he fought only with his sword, he'd be almost a weaker version of Marth/Roy, but obviously with different attacks.

Young Link wouldn't survive with just sword attacks.
Or...my Young Link wouldn't, anyway >_> *projectile spammer extraordinaire*

I guess the consensus is definetly ranged attacks too, I mean they're there, you should really use your specials if you want to do well.

Sooo i just came back from a tournament and i used my only sword-slashing strategy and did well against the characters that people say would be almost impossible to beat without ranging (shiek).
But I did end up losing to a Marth

Yeah, keep your distance from those Marths. The last thing you want to do is play a spacing war with him. It's like playing dodgeball in a 2 feet area, just worse.

You need to use the nair, at least, otherwise most of your air game is gone.

I guess it could work in theory, but why wouldn't you use projectiles? Bombs are amazing and boomerangs can make or break games.
