Just started trying to get better at melee

Hey, I go to BU and finally finished summer classes so I don't really have a whole lot to do for the next few weeks and am looking for people to play with. I don't know what I'm doing fully to be honest, I main sheik and have never been to a tournament or anything but most of my friends kind of hate playing with me now so I'm in this weird middle ground where I think I'll be smoked if i go to a tournament and I kill my friends at home. Anyway let me know if you have any recommendations for what I should do/if you want to meet up let me know

Don't worry about getting smoked at a tournament, really. For your first tournament, don't go in expecting to dominate everyone, more so, just focus on the experience of getting to play a bunch of new people who use different characters and have different playstyles. It's all a learning experience, and the great thing about it is that you can have a good time participating.

If you want to meet up with others for friendlies and such, the Regional Zones forum would be the best place to check while the Tournament Listings forum contains all the tournaments you may be interested in attending.

Also, since you're just getting started, having a look through this guide for competitive Smash also wouldn't hurt, especially with all the free time you have.
