I'm learning the Pillar technique, and I can't seem to jump out of my shine fast enough to truly make use of it or gain any useful experience? Any tips/ideas/in depth tutorials out there?

It's probably not jumping out of your shine quickly enough. Rather, try wavedashing out of each shine, then jumping up to dair the opponent. On fastfallers, the jump should be a short hop. Other characters will need a double jump. Pretty much any match that involves Falco and final destination will have some good examples of pillaring.

As swift said, you need to practice wavedashing out of shine, since it helps with the timing you will require for pillaring and whatnot. You can ridiculously jump out of shine extremely fast with enough practice, though. Once you get to that speed you can do some flashy plays such as shine to dair out of the stage. :p

I used to have problems getting stuck in shine as well, the only thing that can help you is practice moving from b to y/x faster. good luck!

The real reason people get stuck in shine is accidentally wobbling their direction and having their jump input eaten by the turnaround (which extends how long you must stay in shine before you can jump) or having their jump input eaten by hitlag.

I think I read somewhere that the turnaround does not stop you from jumping (except maybe 1 frame?). I could be wrong on that. Hit lag, I think, is almost always the culprit. It's kind of funny watching some of my friends (that are newer to the game) try to do technical stuff. They mess up and rage at their controller or their inability to move their hands fast enough. They always have a funny look when I tell them they are pressing the buttons too fast (which is almost always).

Turnaround doesn't stop you from jumping, but it delays when you can jump so if you're jumping at the same time you would normally jump without turnaround, turnaround could eat that input. It would really surprise me if it was only 1 frame that turnaround delayed your jump because I'm pretty sure I haven't been executing frame-perfect jumps but whenever I jump, shine, jump an enemy, it happens very quickly, but whenever I jump, shine turnaround, jump an enemy, it seems like I have to do the motion much slower because if I try to do it as fast as I do it normally I get stuck in shine. It would really surprise me if it was only 1 frame of delay because of how much I feel like I have to slow down combined with the fact that the motion always fails if I do it the same speed as normal. Like I said, I doubt I'm doing frame perfect jumps.

It also depends on the character you're playing against (replying to OP) against Fox it's probably best to WD OoS and do it till probably 20%-35% (maybe less or more) and then you can combo into something else (uptilt works good to combo a pillar)

I think this applies to Falcon as well (please correct me if I'm wrong)

Against Marth........ I hate that guy -.-

To combo marth, use more up-tilts. Up-tilt is actually SOOO much easier to combo out of, it's just harder to hit with. Against marth:
dair > shine > double jump, fastfall, dair > up-tilt > double jump, fastfall, dair > up-tilt .....
Something like that works for me. It varies a lot with platforms and stuff as well, but basically, if you can get up-tilts in your combo, it will probably hurt a LOT more.

Utilt is godly. Once you get a combo started, keep Marth above you. Poke at platforms with utilt on FoD and the flat part under the platform on Yoshi's, and both uair and usmash on all stages. Usmash has some sweet horizontal hitboxes if you hit with his toes or behind him that can catch people off guard at high percent in their shield.

Shine waveland to behind Marth when he's on a platform would be best if you want to go in, right? It would be quickest and give you the most mobility, save for full jumping to the top platform with an aerial.

That's probably the best 'go in' option if he is on a platform. I will admit that I don't use it, but I think it's because my falco is kind of weird :p
