The easiest way that I know of is just to pinch y and z, with a slight delay on pressing z.

One person I know simply uses the control stick. I settled upon a very particular motion of using Y + Z with thumb and index.

Press jump however you normally do, then grab however you normally do. You can keep your hands on the control stick, X/Y button, and Z button at the same time, so there's little reason to do anything special.

If you're jumping, then you're pressing grab too late. If you're dash grabbing, then you're inputting the grab too early (before or at the same time as your jump).

I've been an up+z person for a long long time. Probably because dash up+a for up-smash on Fox as muscle memory, though I admit I still miss it every now and then. Been thinking about whether I should switch to x+z.

If you dash and press one of the jump buttons and then up on the c stick it's faster than dash up+a because you don't charge it. I used to use up for JC grabs but switched because it's just easier and more consistent with x and y. It's everyone's choice though of course.

Hm... could you also press up then up on the c-stick? That's what I do for up-smash OOS. Well anyways breaking those years of muscle memory is pretty hard for me...

What method is the OP using anyways?

Edit: Interesting how this game has few buttons, but so many different ways to use said buttons and techniques.

Yeah up and c stick works too, it's probably what most people do to JC upsmash because you pretty much have to claw to use x or y (I use both claw and regular depending on what I'm doing). Not sure what the OP uses, but what's even more interesting than the variety is that almost all the different methods are equal and just dependent on preference.

Is there any difference in animation between a dash grab and boost grab?
I think slightly but maybe it depends on the character. You can definitely tell with Fox because the dash attack dust cloud pops up but with others it's really hard to tell.
