Jump Cancelling with Falco

So I've been picking up Falco in the past few weeks and I'm still learning some of the crazy technical stuff with him. My brother plays fox, and he suggested I learn to jump cancel my smashes and grabs from dashing, because I would wavedash out of dash so that I could over smash or grab from dash. The thing I noticed with JC'ing is that I can't appear to down smash or over smash with it, only grab and up smash. Is that true that I can only up smash and grab from a JC? Or am I just really scrubby and can't do the over and down smashes? Any help would be appreciated

No, you're right. The only things you can do from JCing dash are U-smash and grab. If you want to use other attacks from your character's standing state (D-smash, F-smash, jabs, tilts, Nuetral-B, Down-B), you can use something called dash cancelling. To dash cancel, press down on the control stick while your character is in the full dashing/running animation. They'll crouch and cancel their running momentum, so you can do any attack out of that immediately. Make sure it's the full running animation though; it can't be performed in the initial dash animation. If you want to do an attack that quickly out of dash, you should probably look into pivoting stuff.
