If there is already a topic for this, let me know and I'll lock this, simple as that.

But anyways, what's everyone's feelings on the rumor that Jeff Gerstmann has been fired from his position as Editor in Chief of Gamespot for his negative review of Kane and Lynch, because Eidos pays CNET to advertise them, and then Gamespot, on of CNET's sites, advises people to not by an Eidos product.

For those that don't know about it, here's the post from Joystiq regarding it http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/30/rumor-gamespots-editorial-director-fired-over-kane-and-lynch-rev/

Apparently, a large number of Gamespot members are canceling their paid subscriptions in protest.

But what do you guys think about the whole thing?

I used to be a veyr active member at gamespot.

Gerstmann was quite a guy. He was the protagonist of other controversial episodes, but overall I liked the guy. He was funny and a real train for the whole gamespot staff..

I wonder where they're going to go now.

Every subscriber I know of is cancelling his/her subscritpion unwilling to pay CNET for what they have done.

It's sad that Gerstmann himself has yet to comment on the whole episode

To be fair, the exact reason of his firing hasn't been confirmed. But if it is over the whole Kane & Lynch thing as it apears to be, that really is quite pathetic. I didn't agree with all his reviews (Zelda:TP, Tony Hawk 3) but hell, reviews are always opinion based and I don't think it's bad to have differing opinions to analyze a game.

Reviewers are morons and have no worth to me. If he was fired for rating it badly Gamespot has every right to do so.

Advertisers fuel the site, unless subscribers want to put a lot more money up so the site can run ad free, all the subscribers can just shut up.
